A false alarm: waste caught fire in the green belt south of the Meridian Gate of the Forbidden City

At around 1 PM yesterday, waste piled up in the green belt at the northwest corner of Nantuzi River, south of the Meridian Gate of the Forbidden City, caught fire. Many tourists took pictures of the billowing smoke and posted them online, saying that a building near the meridian gate of the Forbidden City was on fire. Reporters at the scene found that the tower building near the meridian gate was intact, without any traces of fire. Meridian Gate south of the green belt near the city wall, scattered hundreds of white plastic bottles, some have burned black, nearby there are burned suitcases, newspapers and other debris. According to the Palace Museum's official Weibo account, stray people picking up waste products caught fire and smoke. Security personnel found the flames and put them out in time. Firefighters then arrived and properly disposed of the flames without causing any damage.
