Indonesian whale dies with six kilograms of plastic in stomach
It is urgent to control plastic waste pollution, especially the pollution of plastic waste to the ocean! Six kilograms of plastic waste was found in the body of a dead sperm whale southeast of Indonesia's Sulawesi island on May 20.
The body of the 9.5-meter-long sperm whale was found offshore in a local national park. The cause of his death is unknown, but up to 6kg of plastic waste was found in his stomach, including 115 plastic cups, as well as a large number of bottles, plastic bags and sandals.
Ironically, the national park is known for its clean, clear waters, beautiful corals, and rich Marine life.
In June, a whale died off the coast of Thailand after rescuers spent days trying to save it. After an autopsy on the whale, it was found that it had 80 plastic bags in its stomach, weighing 8kg, and eating plastic bags was one of the main causes of its death.
Data show that since the 1950s, the world has produced more than 8.3 billion tons of plastic, of which 6.3 billion tons have become plastic waste - at present, the world's annual 8 million tons of plastic waste into the ocean, seriously threatening the survival of seabirds and Marine fish.
