Retired fisherman Jiang Dexin: Protecting a pool of clear water
"My family has been fishermen for generations." Lao Jiang said that his family had been living on a fishing boat before. Later, his parents became old and inconvenient to live on the boat, but they did not want to "leave the water slope". He borrowed money to buy a house on the shore less than 100 meters away from the Han River in a straight line, and let the two old people move there first. The ship vacated space, old Jiang also free up hands and feet, fishing, fish, fish, the best market can earn more than 100 thousand yuan a year.
In the past ten years, in order to protect the core water source area of the middle route project of the South-to-North Water Diversion project, the local government first banned cage fish farming, and later implemented a ban on fishing policy, to recover fishing boats, so that fishermen "wash their feet ashore". "At first, I didn't understand it either. My family just paid back the money for the house, and the good days just started." Lao Jiang said, "Later I realized that the water of the Han River is to be transported to more than 100 million people in the north, so what does it matter if we suffer a little loss?"
This is not the first time that Lao Jiang has "suffered losses" for others. In the autumn of 2013, a small reservoir had a sudden emergency and needed to release water to the Danjiangkou reservoir. By the time the notice reached Lao Jiang, it was already 10 PM, and the sluice was to be opened at 0 PM the next day. "At that time, most fishermen lived on the boat, and electricity was not convenient. After sleeping, they would turn off their mobile phones to save electricity. It was not easy to notify people in time." He recalled that fishing boats were tied tightly with anchor ropes, and if they were not untied in time, the water level would rise and the boat would be pulled into the river. So Lao Jiang immediately drove the boat to the river to "beat drums and gongs" to inform everyone. Later, he found that his family raised a pond of fish did not have time to catch up, was washed away by the flood.
After retiring the catch and landing, Lao Jiang often looked at the Han River in a trance. His family said he suffered from "thinking of the River disease". So, he simply pulled a few of the same suffering from "thinking of the river disease" old fellow, began to clean up the Hanjiang River coastline. Before long, a team of 16 people was gathered, which was called the Dexin Water Protection Volunteer Service Team.
Later, the local government officially listed the Qingbleachers as public welfare posts, and selected several villagers under the age of 60 in each village along the river, with a monthly subsidy of more than 1,000 yuan. But at that time, old Jiang was already over age, and many people felt that he was "at a loss". "I didn't think about it that much. I feel satisfied now." Lao Jiang said that his parents, wife and himself have pension insurance, and whenever there is a short-term public welfare post recruitment in the village, everyone will think of him first.
The Xingang Economic Development and Management Office applied for a clear floating boat for him, named "Shou Jing Guard". Lao Jiang was overjoyed to be able to launch the boat again. From then on, he boarded the ship almost every morning at about 8 o 'clock, patrolling the water surface along his responsibility of about 14 kilometers, in addition to salvaging dead branches and other floating objects, but also rescued 9 people overboard.

Old Jiang's deeds gradually spread, and more and more people volunteered to participate in the volunteer service of water protection. At present, there are 186 volunteers in the Xingang Economic Development and Management Office. More than 2,000 environmental protection volunteer service teams have been born in Shiyan, and 3.2 million people in Shiyan have a common title -- well keeper.
"This is the way, our Hanjiang River water, no matter where it flows, should be good water." Jiang said that people's awareness of environmental protection has increased, and there are more and more volunteers. At first, it took them less than half a day to clean the water each time. Now, most of the time, they can come back after about an hour. Now, Lao Jiang spends less time on the river and more time on environmental protection propaganda and volunteer preaching.
In recent years, the cause of water conservation has been aided by science and technology. In Danjiangkou Reservoir, 234 cameras and 81 sets of cloud broadcasting have been set up to monitor the reservoir's shoreline through AI algorithms. Once people or vehicles illegally approach the reservoir, they will be persuaded to leave in time by the radio. Some volunteers joked to themselves that they might be replaced by machines.
But Jiang still believes in the old ways. He keeps four dogs by the dock. "Whenever someone falls into the water or something happens on the river, the dogs bark. I can hear them at home," Jiang said. "He said.
