UN report: Environmental protection is urgent
The United Nations Environment Programme (UNEP) released a report at the fourth United Nations Environment Assembly in Nairobi, Kenya, on the 13th, saying that if humanity fails to take urgent action to protect the environment, human health will be increasingly threatened.
< br/> The latest edition of the sixth Global Environment Outlook report, released on the same day, is said to be the most extensive and rigorous assessment of the current global environmental situation. The report warns that without urgent efforts to protect the environment, millions of people around the world could lose their lives by the middle of the century because of environmental problems. The report also points out that by 2050, as the global population increases, food production will increase by 50 percent. People are therefore advised to reduce food waste in their daily lives and promote a healthy diet to reduce the need to increase food production.
The report also calls for action to curb the amount of plastic waste that enters the oceans each year.
The report also highlights that if every country can invest 2% of its GDP in green, it will not only achieve the long-term goal of economic growth within the forecast range, but also avoid further impacts on climate change, water scarcity and ecosystem degradation.
The Global Environment Outlook (GEO) is a series of scientific research reports of the United Nations that provide the basis for governments and other relevant organizations to make environmental decisions. The first issue was published in 1997. The sixth edition of the report, under the theme of "Health of the Planet, Health of the people", sets out a future plan for the realization of sustainable development in 2050.
