A US food company urgently recalled 75 tons of chicken products
Beijing, Aug. 19 (Xinhua) -- Perdue Foods of the United States recently recalled about 75 tons of frozen chicken pieces and chicken fingers after consumers found wire in the products.
Perdue issued a notice on the 16th that it has confirmed that very thin wire was accidentally mixed into chicken products during the production process, the Associated Press reported on the 18th. Although the wire has only been found in a "limited number" of chicken products, the company said it was issuing a massive recall as a precaution.

The company and the US Food Safety and Inspection Service determined that about 75 tons of chicken products may be contaminated.
The recalled chicken products were sold in retail stores in the United States and China. To date, no adverse reactions have been reported to consumers from the recalled batch of chicken products.
According to the Associated Press, foreign material contamination is one of the leading causes of food recalls in the United States. In November, Tyson Foods issued an emergency recall of more than 13 tons of chicken nuggets after metal flakes were found in its food. In addition to metal, plastic debris, grit and insects have also been found in a variety of food products, leading to several emergency recalls. (Huang Aiping)
