Air India was exposed to have lizards in its meals, and cockroaches were found before

Air India's 'special in-flight meal' has provoked cries from passengers -- a burger and lizard combo. A passenger on an Air India flight from Delhi to London on Tuesday posted a photo online of a torn plastic container containing a hamburger and an animal that appeared to be a gecko sticking out from underneath. It is unclear if the gecko is alive or if the photo is real. Air India said on Tuesday that it had received no complaints from passengers and that the incident was not true. However, a source confirmed to TOI that the incident had taken place. Shortly after takeoff, a passenger asked for a "special meal" from the flight attendant, who retrieved one from the kitchen, and then heard the passenger screaming that there was a lizard "crawling fast" under the burger. Horrified at the sight, many passengers skipped their meals. The passenger then complained to Air India. A flight attendant, who did not want to be named, confirmed that the food hygiene situation on Air India aircraft was poor, and cockroaches had previously been found on the food delivery truck. The crew had reported the incident to their superiors, but to no avail. An Air India official said the airline was "months behind" in paying its in-flight food supplier for meals due to poor performance. Air India has repeatedly faced negative headlines, including cabin rats and drunk pilots. In April, the co-pilot of a flight allegedly assaulted the captain just before takeoff.
