Delicious, environmentally friendly and nutritious edible tableware debuts in Japan

Environmental pollution caused by disposable tableware is one of the issues that the current catering service also needs to be solved, and recently a Japanese company launched edible tableware, which has been widely concerned.

Financial Channel special reporter Li Qianwen: Now I am in Binan city in Aichi Prefecture, Japan, where a traditional summer festival is being celebrated, and the organizers have prepared some small Japanese snacks like this one especially for tourists, and the staff just told me that this heart-decorated plate can also be eaten together. So I'm going to try them to see what they taste like.

This is crunchy and sweet, kind of like a biscuit. B: What is it made of? I'll ask the staff. What is it made of, please?

Director of Summer Event organizers in Binan City, Aichi Prefecture, Japan: This plate is made entirely of food and it is safe to eat. This is the first time for us to use this type of cutlery at an event.

Resident of Binan City, Aichi Prefecture, Japan: If the plates are eaten together, there will be no garbage and the taste is perfectly acceptable.

The manufacturer of edible tableware is an old company. The main business is to produce ice cream cone crust. After several ingredient matching tests, the edible plate was finally made with four different flavors. The company has also developed a new type of edible chopsticks made of rushes, the raw material of Japanese tatami MATS.

Financial channel special reporter Li Qianwen: Now I also come to taste this taste, this chopstick taste is also very crispy, but also can smell a rush of fragrance taste, in fact, just according to the person in charge, eating this pair of chopsticks is equivalent to eating a whole bowl of vegetable salad.

The price of edible chopsticks in 400 yen, about 26 yuan; Dinner plates cost 70 yen, or about 5 yuan. Last year, about 60,000 pieces of edible tableware including plates and chopsticks were sold, and 70,000 pieces were sold in the first half of this year alone, and the annual sales are expected to reach 200,000 pieces, the official said. Katsuhiko SakakibarA, head of Japan's edible tableware maker:

At present, we make almost exclusively by hand. We can produce about 3,000 pieces a day. We hope to achieve mass production in the future, reduce the price to half of the current level, and the market should be bigger.

According to statistics, Japan produces about 9.4 million tons of plastic waste every year, ranking second in the world in terms of plastic waste per capita. Last year, Japan's environment ministry put forward the goal of reducing plastic use by 25% by 2030, and in March this year, it again made clear that the comprehensive charge for plastic bags is the premise of vigorously promoting the reduction of plastic waste.
