Strengthening global environmental governance is of urgency that cannot be ignored, and promoting the joint construction of a prosperous, clean and beautiful world is the general expectation of the international community. UN Secretary-General Guterres said: "We must achieve reconciliation between humans and nature, and 2021 is a critical year to achieve this goal."

Man and nature are a community with a shared future, and civilization will flourish if ecology thrives. The COVID-19 pandemic has triggered a profound reflection on the relationship between man and nature, and the loss of biodiversity and the degradation of ecosystems pose a major risk to human survival and development. The results of some scientific studies should be taken seriously, such as "the concentration of greenhouse gases in the atmosphere has reached the highest level in 3 million years and continues to rise" and "2016 to 2020 is destined to be the warmest five years on record" and so on. The British magazine The Economist published an article in the "World in 2021" column, pointing out that climate change will be the most serious challenge facing this generation, and the world should make the greatest efforts to cope with it in the new year.

In 2020, environmental governance has gained more weight on the global agenda. The Moscow Declaration of the 12th BRICS Summit reaffirmed the BRICS countries' commitment to implementing the Paris Agreement on Climate Change, and looked forward to further strengthening cooperation on environmental issues, especially jointly addressing the issue of marine plastic waste, which is the focus of the BRICS Clean Rivers Project; the G20 Riyadh Summit launched the Global Coral Reef R&D Acceleration Platform, implemented the Global Initiative to Reduce Land Degradation and Enhance Terrestrial Habitat Protection, and reaffirmed the commitment of the Osaka Blue Ocean Vision to reduce the increase in marine plastic waste pollution; at the Climate Ambition Summit, a total of 45 countries made new commitments to increase their nationally determined contributions, and 24 countries proposed carbon neutrality goals... Working together to address global environmental risks and challenges, the international community is showing more visions of cooperation.

In 2021, the global environmental governance process will be marked by a series of important international conferences. The 15th Conference of the Parties to the Convention on Biological Diversity will be held in China, where the "Post-2020 Global Biodiversity Framework" will be formulated to set goals and paths for global biodiversity conservation in the next 10 years; the 26th Conference of the Parties to the United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change will be held in the UK, which is related to ensuring the accurate implementation of the Paris Agreement on Climate Change; the 19th meeting of the Review Committee for the Implementation of the United Nations Convention to Combat Desertification will be held online, and will continue to seek ways to prevent and control global desertification. The international community looks forward to further gathering wisdom and strength in 2021 and taking important steps towards achieving the goals of the United Nations 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development.

In the process of global environmental governance, China's role is becoming increasingly prominent. From the traditional Chinese wisdom of "Tao follows nature" and "harmony between man and nature" to the new development concept of innovation, coordination, greenness, openness and sharing, China has placed ecological civilization construction in a prominent position and integrated it into all aspects and the entire process of China's economic and social development. The value of Chinese ideas is increasingly valued. China has taken strong policy actions to build the world's largest clean energy system, and has achieved the goal of 17% protected area by 2020 set by the United Nations Convention on Biological Diversity ahead of schedule. In the past 10 years, the growth of forest resources has ranked first in the world. It has carried out long-term and large-scale governance of desertification and effectively protected and restored wetlands. The collection and preservation of biological genetic resources ranks among the top in the world... The results of China's practice have been widely praised.

China adheres to the concept of building a community with a shared future for mankind, deeply participates in global environmental governance, and jointly explores the path of green and sustainable development and the construction of global ecological civilization with countries around the world. In 2020, at the United Nations Biodiversity Summit and the Climate Ambition Summit, China put forward important propositions and made major declarations, injecting confidence and strength into global climate governance. China pledges to increase its national voluntary contributions, adopt more powerful policies and measures, strive to peak carbon dioxide emissions before 2030, and strive to achieve carbon neutrality before 2060. The Central Economic Work Conference identified "doing a good job in carbon peak and carbon neutrality" as one of the eight key tasks for 2021, fully demonstrating China's responsibility as a major country that keeps its word and delivers on its promises.

In 2021, it is the obligation of all countries to join hands and work together to build a beautiful world in harmony with all things. "Ecological Civilization: Building a Community of Life on Earth" is the theme of the 15th Conference of the Parties to the Convention on Biological Diversity, and it is also mankind's beautiful message for the future.
