Greece will ban all plastic products from July 3, 10 types of plastic products can no longer be used
Local time on July 3, Greece's comprehensive ban on plastic order came into effect, plastic tableware, plastic plates, plastic straws and other 10 kinds of plastic products will no longer be used, taking an important step to achieve the goal of "no plastic".
The European Commission has issued a ban as early as 2020, requiring member states to ban the use of 10 single-use plastic products by 2021. Under this policy framework, Greece has actively promoted legislation. According to Greek legislation, as of February 1, Greek public institutions have terminated the procurement of plastic tableware, plates, straws and drink stirrers, styrofoam food and drink containers and LIDS, as well as all non-biodegradable plastic products. The ban on the above-mentioned plastic products came into full effect on July 3.
According to the Greek government's plan, from July 1, municipalities across Greece must equip all playgrounds and municipal sports facilities with drinking water taps and no longer use bottled water. From January 1, 2022, Greece will impose an environmental tax on plastic cups and LIDS, as well as single-use food containers, with the proceeds going to a special "green fund" to take action to protect the Marine environment.
