Improper landfill: Thailand bans import of recyclable waste
[Global network reporter Qu Tengfei] As factories have been found to illegally deal with electronic waste and plastic waste, causing pollution to the country's environment, the Thai government has officially announced a ban on the import of recyclable waste.
Japan NHK television reported on June 21 that the Thai government had received a report from residents around the garbage treatment plant in the suburbs of the capital Bangkok in May that the smell near the garbage dump was very unpleasant. After a search, the police found that the garbage dump was illegally processing recyclable garbage imported from abroad. In view of the huge environmental pollution caused by illegal waste disposal, the Thai government has announced a ban on the import of all types of recyclable waste. The country is currently making changes to its laws.
Thai police raided a factory on the outskirts of the country on Monday on suspicion of illegally disposing of electronic waste such as mobile phone batteries, it was reported. So far, nine factories have been found guilty of illegal activities.
The Thai government revealed that by the end of May, most of the waste imported into Thailand came from Japan. The ban will inevitably have an impact on Japan.
