Life hangs by a thread! Yangtze finless porpoise is entangled and in danger, fishery authorities launch emergency rescue
The Yangtze finless porpoise is a first-class national protected animal and is also called the "giant panda in the water" because of its preciousness and rarity. On Feb 9, local residents found a finless porpoises struggling with ropes around its tail in the lower reaches of Gezhouba in Yichang, Hubei province. At the critical moment, warm-hearted citizens joined hands with the fisheries administration and other parties to quickly rescue the animal.
After 12 o 'clock on the day of the incident, local photographers in the lower reaches of the Gezhouba river found a finless dolphin dragging two plastic bottles swimming back and forth on the water surface, they realized that the finless dolphin may be entangled by floating objects on the water surface. This could be dangerous for the finless porpoise, which is just minutes away from coming out of the water to breathe.
Concerned citizens quickly called the fisheries administration rescue phone. Soon, the fishery administration law enforcement officers arrived at the scene with their assault boats, and under the guidance of the public, they found the trapped finless porpoise and launched rescue. At this time, the finless porpoise was still struggling to free itself from the floating object. The fisheries enforcement officers worked together to pull the finless dolphin and quickly cut the tightly wound rope.
Fisheries law enforcement officials said that the successful rescue of the trapped finless porpoise benefited from the timely discovery and help of the public, which bought time for the success of the rescue. At present, there are more than 10 finless porpoises living in the river section of Yichang city all year round. The fisheries department reminds the public to call the hotline for help if they find any abnormality in the finless porpoises.
