Milliken polypropylene transparent agent certified by Critical Guidance

Spartanburg, South Carolina. — Milliken Chemical, a division of Milliken Corporation, today announced Millad® NX® Polypropylene clearers have received Critical Guidance certification from the Plastics Recycling Association (APR). This scientific and technological innovation award confirms that the Millad NX 8000 transparent is fully compliant with the concept of plastic packaging recycling. To date, the Millad NX 8000 additive is the only polypropylene transparent agent certified by the Critical Guidance of the APR Plastics Recycling Association. The Plastics Recycling Association is a U.S. trade association dedicated to identifying and removing barriers to commercial-scale recycling of plastics.

"We were impressed by Milliken's industry leadership and vision for the process development of Milliken's Millad NX 8000 transparenants and other environmentally friendly additive technologies." "Said Steve Alexander, President and CEO of the Plastics Recycling Association. "We believe Milliken has always been at the forefront of plastic recycling and sustainability. There is no doubt that Milliken is well positioned to continue to drive change in the global plastics industry."

" The Critical Guidance certification from the Plastics Recycling Association measures the suitability of recycling. The gold standard. ." Allen Jacoby, Milliken's senior vice president of plastic additives. "The Millad NX 8000 is a transparent agent product built with cutting-edge technology to help our customers achieve sustainability. In addition, its environmental performance benefits are also an important factor driving the growth of demand in the global market. Milliken is currently investing in a brand new world-class production facility. Once the facility is up and running, the production capacity of the transparent agent will increase by about 50 percent."

Rigorous recycling adaptability testing

Thanks to the Plastics Recycling Association certification program, Milliken Transparent agents have successfully passed the rigorous testing procedures required in the Association's Critical Guidance Document. The Institute designed different test procedures for different materials to simulate the recycling process, including crushing, separation, cleaning and reprocessing. The results show that the Millad NX 8000 transparent agent product meets or exceeds the stringent requirements outlined in the Critical Guidance Documents. This means that the Millad NX 8000 transparenants will not adversely affect the recyclability of polypropylene products. Milliken's comprehensive quality control system and the high purity of the transparent product itself were key to achieving this certification.

The Millad NX 8000 Advanced Transparent technology significantly improves the appearance and processability of polypropylene, while further accelerating the adoption of this lightweight plastic with a "low carbon footprint." In addition, polypropylene treated with the Millad NX 8000 transparent agent has been certified as eco-label by the Safety Testing Laboratories Corporation (UL) due to its excellent energy efficiency. UL confirmed that resin containing Millad NX 8000 transparent agent requires lower energy consumption during processing compared to other polypropylene treated with conventional transparent agent. The lower processing temperature helps to achieve energy savings, which in turn creates greater economic benefits for the producer, without negatively impacting the ecological environment.

In October 2019, the General meeting of the Plastics Recycling Association was held in Scottsdale, Arizona, USA. Milliken and other Critical Guidance certified members attended the certificate presentation ceremony.
