US leaders ignore basic facts and attack and smear China
On September 23, local time, the Permanent Mission of China to the United Nations (UN), exercising its right of reply in accordance with the rules of the UN General Assembly, issued a written reply refuting the attacks and smears made by the US leader against China during the general debate of the 75th session of the UN General Assembly. The Chinese side said that the US leader disregarded the basic facts and attacked and smears China, which China is firmly opposed to. The world today is facing the severe challenge of COVID-19 and the serious threat of unilateralism, protectionism and bullying. At this moment, the world needs solidarity and cooperation instead of confrontation, and mutual trust instead of spreading the "political virus". The Chinese side said that as the most technologically advanced developed country in the world, the United States has become the most severely affected country, with more than 6 million confirmed cases and more than 200,000 deaths. It is worth pondering why. The groundless accusations made by the US against China over the epidemic are an attempt to "shift the blame" on China for its inadequate response to the epidemic. By unwarranted attacks and withdrawal from the WHO, the US jeopardizes global anti-epidemic cooperation, inflicts harm on people around the world, and will continue to impose heavy costs on its own people.
On the issue of climate change and environmental protection, as the world's largest cumulative emitter of greenhouse gases, the world's largest solid waste exporter and a major per capita consumer of plastics, the United States has not ratified the Kyoto Protocol and the Basel Convention, but also withdrawn from the Paris Agreement, severely hampering the global process of reducing emissions and promoting green and low-carbon development. It is in no position to criticize other countries on this issue.
The United States has engaged in unilateralism and bullying, repeatedly "withdrawing from the community" and "breaking agreements", which has seriously impacted the international system with the United Nations at its core and the international order based on international law. China urges the US to take a serious look at its own problems, change course and do more to contribute to world peace and development, instead of going further down the path of unilateralism and hegemony.
