scientific research exchanges accelerate regional technological collaboration and strengthen

The ancient Silk Road was not only a road of trade, but also a road of friendship. As we enter the 21st century, the ancient camel bell still echoes. Under the Belt and Road Initiative, the people of countries along the routes are working towards the same goal. Civilizations are learning from each other through exchanges and their peoples are getting closer.

Ma Li, an Indian student, has just completed his first clinical practice at the Ophthalmology Center affiliated to Xiamen University. Many students in his class come from countries along the Belt and Road Initiative. Ma Li, an Indian student from Xiamen University: "There are ninety-five students in my class. Many of them come from Cambodia, India, Nepal, and some from Africa."

Ma Li not only learned ophthalmology skills in Xiamen, but also brought cricket, a popular game in his hometown. With the deepening of educational exchanges under the Belt and Road Initiative, the Affiliated Eye Center of Xiamen University has also sent medical teams eight times to Myanmar, Sri Lanka and other countries to perform free surgeries for nearly 3,000 cataract patients.

Last year, 320,000 students from countries along the Belt and Road came to China, accounting for about 65 percent of the total number.

On the Belt and Road Initiative, exchanges in the field of scientific research are also accelerating. In Yunnan, Peter, a researcher from South Africa, is studying the industrialization of edible fungi with colleagues from many countries.

< /strong> Professor of soil Ecology at the Center for Mountain Ecosystem Research, Peter (South Africa) : "Yunnan people have a special fondness for fungi, and their research on fungi is quite in-depth."

Peter works at the Mountain Ecosystem Research Center, a joint project between China and Kenya, to find solutions to global problems in the fields of soil environment, climate warming, and plastic degradation.

Postdoctoral fellow Saharon at the Center for Mountain Ecosystem Research. Khan (Pakistan) : "Our work is to solve human, global problems, which is why I like working here."

Over the past five years, China has attracted 2,500 young scientists from countries along the Belt and Road to China for short-term research work, and a regional technology transfer cooperation network has taken shape for ASEAN, South Asia, Central Asia, Central and Eastern Europe.

The world is so big, and the construction of the Belt and Road has also provided more opportunities for people along the routes to go out and see the world. Over the past five years, China has signed 76 bilateral cooperation documents on culture and tourism with countries along the Belt and Road. At present, the scale of international tourism in countries along the Belt and Road has accounted for about 70 percent of global tourism.
