2013 China Science and Technology Week opens: Experience the latest technology in food, clothing, housing and transportation

Original title: 2013 China Science and Technology Week opens, experience brand new technology in food, clothing, housing and transportation

International Online News (Reporter Yao Yijing) The 2013 Science and Technology Week with the theme of "Technology Innovation for a Better Life" was held from May 19 to 25. A series of mass science and technology activities will be carried out simultaneously across China, and more than 1,600 "popular science feasts" will be launched simultaneously across China. At the 2013 Beijing Large-scale Science Popularization Expo opened today, Zhu Shilong, deputy director of the Beijing Municipal Science and Technology Commission, introduced that Beijing has unique advantages in science and technology resources. Citizens can not only experience more than 400 popular science exhibitions on site, but also have the opportunity to participate in interactive and experiential popular science activities in scientific research institutes.

Feel "Technological Innovation and Better Life" through Food, Clothing, Housing and Transportation

It is reported that the theme of this year's China Science and Technology Week is "Technological Innovation and Better Life". The main popular science activities include Beijing's large-scale science expo, Internet Science and Technology Week, Science and Technology Train Xiangxi Tour, 10,000 Science Messengers Entering Campus (Community), Youth "Future Engineer" Competition, Chinese Academy of Sciences "Public Science Day", Ministry of Land and Resources Marine Science Popularization Special Exhibition, "Yangtze River Delta" Science and Technology Expo, Sichuan "Earthquake Relief, Post-Disaster Reconstruction, Food Safety, Epidemic Prevention and Control" series of popular science activities, Shanghai Science and Technology Art Performance, Chongqing "Digital Science Week", Shandong University Student Science and Technology Festival, Guangzhou Guangzhou, Hong Kong, Macao and Taiwan Youth Science and Technology Education Exchange Activities, etc.

In the main venue of Beijing Science and Technology Week, eating, wearing, housing and transportation, you can experience the beauty that science and technology brings to life.

In front of the food nutrition label and nutrition and health knowledge popular science display stand, various food labels are placed. "Nutrition labels of pre-packaged foods are of great guiding significance to your healthy diet. For example, if you see that the sodium content in food ingredients is high, people with high blood pressure should be careful to eat it. If the fat content is high, obese people should eat less." Dr. Li Dong, secretary of the Beijing Institute of Nutritional Sources, is communicating with consumers face to face about food nutrition labels and nutrition and health knowledge. At the same time, the staff around him are also distributing popular science materials in the field of food safety to enable consumers to understand food nutrition labels and spread the correct and scientific concept of nutrition and health to the society. Li Dong admits that at present, many ordinary people know little about nutrition labels of pre-packaged foods, and a long-term process of popular science and education is needed.

Textile safety is closely related to us, accompanying us day and night, "skin to skin", and "toxic" textiles will affect human health. At the clothing and safety booth, experts introduced the relevant knowledge of textile safety on site in a combination of popular science displays, interactive performances and other dynamic and static methods, and advocated green ecological textiles. Gao Zhiqiang from the Military Equipment Research Institute told the International Online reporter: "The hemp comprehensive utilization technology uses hemp stalk core powder as raw material. This technology can not only make clothes with good skin touch, but also be widely used in the military industry to produce a new generation of wooden bulletproof helmets with strong protection and light weight."

Traffic jams have brought great inconvenience to people's travel, and traffic accidents have cast a shadow on travel. In the intelligent transportation exhibition area, you can feel the sense of security brought by technology to travel; according to the reporter, the system can automatically adjust the traffic flow at the intersection, automatically control a car to stop for road testing, and even let the vehicle automatically avoid suspicion. Staff member Zhang Letian introduced that the exhibition area can visit the China Operation Vehicle Monitoring Service Center and China Freight Public Service Platform, rail transit train operation control system, road condition navigation system, high-strength fast and safe escape window for high-speed EMUs, etc.

More than 1,600 "popular science feasts" are waiting for citizens to taste

In the exhibition hall of the Science and Technology Week, with "Popular Science Avenue of Stars" as the main line, it runs through 8 sections such as science and technology make the country more prosperous and powerful, science and technology make the city more beautiful, science and technology cinema, future engineer expo and competition, etc. Citizens can also experience more than 400 popular science exhibits and watch more than 40 science and education films on site, and the number of activities exceeds that of previous years.

In the "Microscopic World Exploration Tour" activity of the Institute of High Energy Physics of the Chinese Academy of Sciences, the Beijing Electron-Positron Collider National Laboratory and the State Key Laboratory of Nuclear Detection and Nuclear Electronics are open to the public free of charge; in the activities of the Institute of Physics of the Chinese Academy of Sciences, visitors can see exhibition projects such as turning water into ice, superconducting maglev train demonstrations, and the magical optical world; walk into the model of the Tiangong Shenzhou complex to experience space "driving" and watch a wonderful robot football match... Various interactive and experiential popular science activities attracted the audience to stop and queue for a long time to experience it in person.

A group of children covered their ears and laughed in the reverberation chamber. Their voices were reflected to form a "deafening" sound effect. At the public open day held by the Institute of Acoustics of the Chinese Academy of Sciences, the public curious about science learned about the acoustic equipment on the "Jiaolong" manned submersible under the guidance of scientific researchers, visited the audio acoustics laboratory, semi-anechoic chamber, reverberation chamber and underwater acoustic test pool and other acoustic laboratories, and explored the charm of the world of sound.

3D printing became the "darling" of the scene

In addition to robots attracting the attention of visitors, 3D printing technology has also become the "darling" of the exhibition site.

In front of the 3D printing technology booth, several desktop 3D printers independently developed by Beijing Taier Times Technology Co., Ltd. are running non-stop, printing out various three-dimensional models, including human figures and hollow vases, and then polished to be comparable to art collections.

Shi Xianbo, a staff member of Beijing Taier Times Technology Co., Ltd., told the International Online reporter that 3D printing is currently mainly used in mold production and machinery manufacturing processes. The working principle of 3D printers is to generate a three-dimensional model by stacking ABS engineering plastics layer by layer after heating based on their own adhesiveness. In industry, product research and development requires designing models, and it is also widely used in the fields of art and life. First, a three-dimensional model diagram is designed on the computer, and then it is transferred to the 3D printer after layer processing using software. It can be printed out using the layer-by-layer stacking method.

It is reported that the printing time varies depending on the size and weight of each model. "It only takes 40 minutes to print a doll, and the cost of the model itself is not expensive. ABS engineering plastics only cost 40 cents per gram," Shi Xianbo introduced. This desktop 3D printer is priced at 9,999 yuan per unit.

China approved the establishment of Science and Technology Week in 2001 and stipulated that the third week of May each year is Science and Technology Week. It has been successfully held for 12 consecutive years, with more than 700 million people directly participating. It has now developed into a branded annual "popular science feast" with high public participation, wide coverage and great social influence.
