A small town in the United States has introduced a new law to ban the sale of bottled drinking water
According to French media reported on January 2, the town of Concord, Massachusetts, US, passed a New Year's ban on the sale of bottled mineral water, which is only for one person.
The law is intended to encourage residents to use tap water in an effort to combat the worldwide problem of plastic pollution. It is understood that the ban only applies to "non-fizzy, tasteless drinking water" and does not apply to cola or other soft drinks. The proposal for the ban was made by 84-year-old activist Jane Hill.
In an interview with The New York Times in 2010, Hill said, "Bottled water companies are draining our aquifers and then going back and selling us the water. "I'm going to fight tirelessly for this law to be passed." The ban states that first-time offenders will be given a warning; Repeat offenders are not so lucky: if they are caught selling bottled water again, they will have to pay between $25 and $50.
