Environmental group: By 2050, marine debris will threaten 600 species more than fish
China News, June 29, according to Malaysia's "China News" reported that the environmental protection organization "Greenpeace" field survey of 30 beaches in Scotland, found that every beach is polluted by plastic products, seriously endangering the living environment of seabirds, sharks, seals and whales.
"Greenpeace" estimates that by 2050, 99% of Britain's native seabirds will swallow a certain degree of plastic waste, when the sea of plastic waste will be more than sea fish, endangering 600 different species.
The group surveyed 30 beaches in Scotland and found water bottles, plastic bags, plastic wrappers and plastic debris left at each beach, the report said. During their work, the group also rescued a gannet that had become entangled in Marine debris.
It is reported that algae accumulate on the surface of the plastic and give off a smell similar to that of small krill, which attracts many seabirds to eat it by mistake. While plastic waste absorbs toxins while floating at sea, birds mistakenly ingesting Marine litter is equivalent to ingesting poison.
In addition, Marine debris can choke them, damage their stomach walls, and even fill their stomachs and starve them to death.
