Exacerbating the climate crisis! 55% of global plastic waste comes from 20 companies

According to a new study by the Minderoo Foundation, the world's 20 largest companies produce 55 percent of all single-use plastic worldwide, contributing to the climate crisis.

According to Russia's Sputnik news agency, Australia tops the list of single-use plastic producers per capita (more than 50 kg in 2019), ahead of the United States, South Korea and the United Kingdom (44 kg).

The US oil company ExxonMobil produces 5.9 tonnes of waste worldwide, according to research by WoodMackenzie, the London School of Economics and the Stockholm Environment Institute.

Companies producing plastic waste are spread across all continents, including 11 in Asia, four in Europe, three in the United States, one in Latin America and one in the Middle East, the report said. Their plastic production is financed by major banks, including Barclays, HSBC, Bank of America, Citigroup and jpmorgan Chase.
