Explorers discover plastic in ocean 10,000 meters deep

Marine plastic pollution has been one of the biggest concerns in recent years, but plastic pollution exists not only at the surface of the ocean, but also in the deep ocean. An explorer has broken the record for the deepest dive in the Mariana Trench and found plastic waste 10,000 meters deep in the ocean.

Located in the western Pacific Ocean, the Mariana Trench is the deepest known trench on Earth, with a maximum depth of about 11,000 meters. Explorer Viscovo, in a submersible that can withstand great pressure, dived 10,927 meters and explored the seabed for four hours. In addition to finding some unique sea life, Vescovo also found plastic bags and candy wrappers there.

In fact, finding plastic trash in the depths of the ocean is no accident. In February, British scientists released a report on plastic waste on the ocean floor. According to the report, analysis of Marine animal samples captured from the Mariana Trench and five other trenches with depths of more than 6,000 meters found that 80 percent of the organisms in the six trenches contained microplastics in their bodies, and all Marine animal samples taken from the Mariana Trench contained microplastics in their bodies.
