Heavy pollution continues after the heating season

Central Radio Network, Beijing, March 20 news (reporter Du Ximeng) According to the Voice of China "China News Broadcast" reported that affected by adverse meteorological conditions, the Beijing-Tianjin-Hebei and surrounding areas have recently appeared heavy pollution weather. The Ministry of Environmental Protection (MEP) said that due to rain and weak cold air, air quality will improve on Sunday evening.

China Environmental Monitoring Station Environmental Quality forecasting and early warning center forecaster Wang Wei said that from the situation of previous years, March is in the seasonal transition period, the atmospheric diffusion conditions change rapidly, 14 days later, unfavorable diffusion weather conditions occupy the upper hand, so the air quality significantly deteriorated. The pollution process was expected to continue until Thursday, but precipitation in parts of the Beijing-Tianjin-Hebei region today will temporarily interrupt the heavy pollution process. Pollutants have been accumulating in the Beijing-Tianjin-Hebei region over the past five days, Wang said, adding that Sunday was a relatively favorable weather day for the region due to cold air in the northeast, including ongoing precipitation. It is expected that Beijing will be relieved from the heavy pollution process this evening to the night, and Beijing will be in a light to moderate pollution process tomorrow, and the cumulative pollution will be intensified on the 22nd than on the 21st, moderate pollution, and there will be a heavy pollution process in the short term. There will be a systematic cold air impact on the night of the 24th, which will completely improve the air quality in Beijing. For the whole of North China, the pollution situation is also expected to improve after today.

Why the "warming halt" has not brought good weather, in addition to the atmospheric diffusion conditions mentioned by Wang Wei. Some of the two high industries whose production was regulated in winter have resumed work one after another. In addition, the Ministry of Environmental Protection also inspected 18 cities in the Beijing-Tianjin-Hebei region and found that since March 16, there have been illegal resumption of production of "scattered and dirty" enterprises or enterprise groups in many places. For example, more than ten small injection molding factories in Sunshi Town Jitun Village, Wen 'an County, Langfang City, were included in the county's "scattered pollution" clean-up list, but production was basically resumed at the time of inspection. In addition, enterprises such as Quzhai cement in Luquan District of Shijiazhuang City were found to have illegal emissions or abnormal operation of pollution control facilities. At present, the ministry of Environmental Protection has reported the relevant problems to local governments, requiring rectification within a time limit.

The Ministry of Environmental Protection also held a routine press conference today. Zhang Bo, director of the Department of Water Resources Management of the Ministry of Environmental Protection, introduced that up to now, 224 cities at the prefecture level and above in China have investigated and confirmed a total of 2,082 black and odorous water bodies, of which 34.9% have been completed and 28.4% are being remediated. Many black water bodies are still developing remediation plans, in accordance with the requirements of the "Water Ten". By the end of the year, key cities must basically eliminate black and smelly water bodies.

Zhang Bo pointed out that through the central environmental protection inspectors to promote, through environmental satellites and other technical means to identify a number of black and smelly water bodies. The rectification of black and smelly water bodies is indeed a difficult task, all places should attach great importance to it, and the deadline should be handed over by the end of this year. Where it is impossible to do so, the Ministry of Environmental Protection will take corresponding restrictive measures.
