In March, art films are released one after another, and box office champions from various countries compete head-on

As the fastest-introduced Oscar-winning film in history (the prize was awarded on the 25th, and the film was released in mainland China on the 29th), "Green Book" grossed over 100 million yuan in its first weekend, much higher than last year's Oscar-winning film "The Shape of Water" (67.7 million yuan in its first weekend).

Next, "Bohemian Rhapsody" will also take advantage of this favorable wind and will be released in theaters affiliated with "Art Alliance" on March 22.

In the past, the film market would usher in the legendary off-season in March. But in the past two or three years, March has been a particularly happy month for many movie fans: domestic art films such as "So Long, My Son", "Spring Over", and "On the Balcony" have come one after another; and batches of films that have set box office records and word-of-mouth records in various countries have been released one after another, such as Thailand's "Can I Return My Brother?", Spain's "Basketball Champions", Japan's "My Hero Academia: Two Heroes", India's "A Mother's Revenge", and so on.

Led by the Oscar-winning film "Bohemian Rhapsody"

A large number of art films are coming one after another

"Bohemian Rhapsody", which won four major awards this year, including Best Actor, Best Editing, Best Sound Effects, and Best Sound Editing, is a music biopic about the Queen band and its lead singer Freddie Mercury, showing a journey full of love, pain, acceptance and music.

Freddie Mercury (played by Rami Malek) was once an ordinary porter at Heathrow Airport in the UK. With a passion for music, he formed the famous Queen band with Brian May (played by Gwilym Lee), Roger Taylor (played by Ben Hardy), and John Deacon (played by Joseph Mazzello).

This time, the film's creators invited Queen members Brian May (Queen's guitarist) and Roger Taylor (Queen's drummer) to serve as music directors, perfectly recreating the grand performance of Queen's 1985 "Life Aid" concert and recreating the band's peak moments.

"Bohemian Rhapsody" currently breaks the box office record for music films with a global box office of more than 850 million US dollars.

There are quite a few theaters in Hangzhou that have joined the "Art Alliance". As of August last year, there were 76 theaters.

In view of the fact that "Three Billboards Outside Ebbing, Missouri", another Oscar-winning film, was confirmed to be released in the "Art Alliance" at the beginning of last year, the number of theaters in Hangzhou that quickly joined increased sharply. This year, there may be quite a few theaters that have joined "Bohemian Rhapsody". For Hangzhou movie fans, going to the theater to watch "Rhapsody" is not a problem.

Wang Xiaoshuai, who won two "Silver Bears" for Best Actor and Best Actress at this year's Berlin Film Festival, will also release "So Long, My Son" on March 22.

The film tells the story of two families who share weal and woe, but are forced to become estranged due to an accident with a hidden story. They experience pain and anxiety, and their lives are full of ups and downs. In the end, they choose to face the truth and move forward. Wang Xiaoshuai said that he hopes that after watching the movie, the audience will feel like they have walked through thirty years of ups and downs with the characters: "In a three-hour movie, time advances rapidly in the ups and downs of emotions, so that you don't notice its passage at all."

The new film "On the Balcony" by Zhang Meng, the director of "The Piano in a Factory", which will be released on March 15, tells the story of the male protagonist who develops complex feelings for the daughter of his "enemy" played by Zhou Dongyu during the "revenge" process because his father died unexpectedly. This is the first time that Zhou Dongyu has served as a film producer. Judging from the promotional materials exposed in the early stage, the film is still full of texture.

Also to be released on March 15, Bai Xue's feature debut "Spring Over", which was shortlisted for the Berlin and Toronto Film Festivals, tells the story of a 16-year-old girl from a special group who travels between Hong Kong and Shenzhen.

Many batch films from Thailand, Spain, Japan, India, and the Netherlands

Box office "big names" from various countries compete head-on

In addition to art films, there are many wonderful batch films (imported films that have bought out the screening rights, and foreign film companies do not participate in the Chinese box office share) released in March.

The Thai film "Can I Return My Brother?", which debuted on March 22, was created by the original production team of "Bad Genius" which became popular in China in 2017, and won the box office championship in Thailand last year.

The movie tells the story of the love-hate relationship between the "useless" brother Cha and the "genius" sister Zhen. The brother and sister have been fighting since they were young, and the brother is always at a disadvantage in front of the excellent sister, which has become his biggest knot. When they grew up, they lived in the same house and fought over anything they didn't agree on, showing their "plastic brother and sister" nature.

The film was directed by Witaya Dongyuyang, who is known as the "Thai comedy hit maker".

In 2017, there was another Spanish film "The Invisible Guest" which also achieved great success in both word-of-mouth and box office in China. The Spanish film "Basketball Champions", which will be released on March 22, won the Best Comedy Film at the 6th Spanish Firoz Award and the Best Film at the 33rd Spanish "Oscar" Goya Award. It was a good film that won both awards and box office in Spain last year.

It tells the story of an assistant coach of the Spanish University League who was sentenced to 90 days of community labor due to a drunk driving accident. He then came to a basketball team composed of players with intellectual disabilities and Down syndrome to coach and lead the team to fight together.

The film is adapted from the true story of the Spanish Aderes Burjassot disabled basketball team. This honorary team composed of disabled people won the Spanish league championship 12 times. The film also uses people with disabilities to perform, which has a very realistic effect.

The first theatrical version of the popular Japanese manga "My Hero Academia", "My Hero Academia: Two Heroes", will be released on March 15. When the film was released in Japan last year, the total box office was 1.64 billion yen, and it was shortlisted for the 2018 Best Animated Film Selection (a total of 6 shortlisted). When the theatrical version was released in North America, despite the limited screening, the box office still ranked among the top 15 Japanese animated film box office in North America.

It tells the story of a mobile scientific research city "My Island" that was suddenly attacked. The professional heroes involved in it fought against the villains who abused their superpowers to do evil. However, as the battle escalated, the hidden truth was revealed one after another.

In addition, the Japanese animation "Natsume's Book of Friends", which tells a heartwarming story about people and monsters, will be released on March 7.

The Indian film "A Mother's Revenge", which will be released on March 22, tells the story of an Indian mother avenging her insulted daughter. The horror comedy "Raging Lion", which was released on the same day, is a Dutch film.
