Indian billionaire abandons his fortune to become a monk

China Daily network, June 1 (Xinlian) According to Indian media reports, on May 31, the net worth of 6 billion rupees (about 580 million yuan), "plastic king" Bhanwarlal Raghunathdoshi (BhanwarlalRaghunathDoshi) abandoned all industries and became a Jain disciple.

Doshi's ordination ceremony, held in the Indian city of Ahmedabad, was the largest of its kind in the city's history. The ceremony was attended by 61 Jain practitioners, more than 1,000 monks and a wide range of business and education figures.

Before becoming a monk, Dosh was the chairman of the Rs 3.5 billion company "DR International" and ran several other organizations. Sources say that his entire fortune is worth 10 billion rupees, while his son Rohit, 33, denies that it is being exaggerated.

After becoming a monk, Dosh will study under Jain scholar Shri Guratna Surishvarji Maharaj, becoming his 108th disciple. Jainism is a traditional religion in India. It rejects the killing of living things, ignores the earthly world, and believes that the purpose of life is to liberate the soul.

"There has not been a monk of his stature for a long time," Maharaj said. He has both money and a family, so it's very special. He's president of 18 organizations. Becoming a monk is not easy. He can't have his hair cut, he can't wear shoes. Such is the life of a Jain disciple, like a conch shell that cannot be dyed any other color."

*** Self-made

Dush comes from a family of textile hawkers in Rajasthan, India. After graduating from university in 1978, he sought employment in Chennai, Mumbai, Bengaluru and New Delhi. Instead of taking over his father's textile business, he borrowed 30,000 rupees from him to start a plastics trade in New Delhi. "That was the toughest period of his life," says Rohit. "He started his business the same year I was born. He often cooked, cleaned, washed and did the dishes himself. He has suffered and experienced the ups and downs of business before he tasted success."

* * * "cannot wait"

when it comes to becoming a monk, said: "ignorance makes people pursuing worldly enjoyment. People want to make money, live a good life, enjoy good food and sex... I was lucky to come into contact with a lot of Jainas. I first came up with a home in 1982. I had the idea, but I didn't have the experience. In the last eight years, the idea has only grown stronger. I can't wait any longer."

Douche is 58 years old and has two sons and a daughter. In 1982, Dush listened to a Jain lecture and was deeply infected with the idea of becoming a monk. But the family opposed, has been unable to do so. It wasn't until 2014 that Dushi's family finally gave their nod.

Both of Dush's sons did their Mbas in the UK, and his daughter is a graduate student. "But he [Douche] believes that even the books we read are useless and that the only right path is the path of [religious] salvation."

There are rumors that Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi will personally attend Dush's ordination ceremony, which Dush denies. "We have never approached him," he said. "If he were to come, the security rules would cause a lot of trouble. "Things have been blown out of proportion by social media."
