Milliken Brand New DeltaMax™ Performance modifiers help manufacturers improve efficiency
At the International Plastics & Rubber Show (K 2019) in Dusseldorf, Germany, Milliken will introduce DeltaMax™ The latest in its range of performance modifiers. This new product aims to bring DeltaMax™ The use of performance modifiers is extended to all areas, including food packaging.
Milliken debuted DeltaMax&trade at the 2018 International Plastics & Rubber Show (NPE Show); Products for extrusion processes. Existing technology allows injection molding companies to create stronger parts with more efficient manufacturing parameters and a wider selection of raw materials.
According to Milliken's global product line manager Emily Blair, the new additive, DeltaMax 5000a, is expected to drive polypropylene (PP) technology innovation in the resin production process. "DeltaMax 5000a will help resin producers enhance the performance of their resin product lines and increase production efficiency by increasing production lines," she said.
For PP injection molding products, Blair noted that injection molding manufacturers have been seeking a balance between high melt fluidity, excellent impact resistance and good rigidity for many years. Until now, however, improving the properties of one material has often come at the expense of the other.
Blair said that DeltaMax performance modifiers can improve melt flow while optimizing impact resistance, marking the era of polypropylene injection molding manufacturers to choose between the three properties of the past.
The DeltaMax modified resin can maximize the impact strength and melt fluidity of the resin, without weakening its rigidity, so that processors can expand the application of polypropylene in a more cost-effective way. The use of high melt flow resins also means more efficient bconverter production, enabling more complex parts to be made, while reducing waste and energy consumption during the forming process, thereby reducing the company's carbon footprint.
In addition, DeltaMax technology improves the performance of recycled resins after consumer and industrial use, increasing their impact resistance and melt fluidity to levels similar to those of the original resin. With this unique advantage, performance or processing efficiency is not sacrificed even when modified and injection molded with up to 100% recycled polypropylene.
This new performance modifier product is expected to receive FDA approval before the end of the year, and Milliken plans to expand its application into food packaging, bringing additional benefits to bottle caps and thin-walled packaging. "Milliken is also currently in the process of applying for regulatory approval in the European food market, with a view to obtaining approval by the end of 2020," Blair added.
For a long time, the injection molding industry has been working to improve the low temperature impact resistance of PP in these areas. To date, maximum resin fluidity and impact resistance at low temperatures have been unable to take into account. DeltaMax will make this a reality and set a new benchmark for polypropylene injection molding.
DeltaMax 5000a modifier will be available for sale during the year and will be introduced to the global market next year. This new grade modifier will significantly expand the range of end-use applications for DeltaMax modified PP copolymers.
Blair said that both modification manufacturers, as well as injection moulders and recyclers, can essentially benefit from the performance advantages brought by DeltaMax additives.
" The end result is that producers, processors, brand owners and contract processors can meet consumer demand for more durable, creative and environmentally friendly plastic products while improving product sustainability and reducing costs." "She says.
" The DeltaMax series is becoming a major driver of innovation in the plastics industry in many parts of the world, including Europe." Blair added, "Milliken is also working to increase its presence across the entire industry chain. The ultimate goal for these customers is to balance performance, profitability and sustainability. And DeltaMax's growing range of performance modifiers meets all their needs."
