Mitsubishi Chemical BioPBS™ Biodegradable straws adopted by Washington hotels
Mitsubishi Chemical (MCC) recently announced that the Washington Hotel Corporation has adopted its BioPBS™ Plant-based biopolymer straws.
From the beginning of May, all straws used in the hotel, including those provided by the hotel's restaurant, were replaced with BioPBSTM biodegradable straws.
Mitsubishi Chemical has developed BioPBS™ Materials and applied for basic patent rights. BioPBS™ Is produced by PTT MCC Biochem Company Limited (a joint venture between Mitsubishi Chemical and PTT Global Chemical Public Company Limited). It is an environmentally friendly polymer that can be degraded by microorganisms in the soil and eventually converted into water and carbon dioxide.

Washington Hotel is committed to reducing the amount of plastic waste, for example, by replacing plastic mixers with wood mixers and reducing unnecessary hotel room amenities.
Today, the hotel is committed to further reducing petroleum-based plastic waste by eliminating 120,000 petroleum-based plastic straws per year in favor of BioPBS™ Biodegradable straws.
Adhering to the company's vision of Realizing KAITEKI*, Mitsubishi Chemical continued to accelerate the development and expansion of applications of biodegradable polymers, including BioPBS™ Materials to help build a recyclable society and achieve the Sustainable Development Goals.
KAITEKI stands for "Sustainable and healthy development of people, society and planet." This is the concept proposed by Mitsubishi Chemical, which is about the feasible ways of sustainable development of society and the planet, and provides a guide for solving environmental and social problems.
