Retired old man collects waste for 11 years to donate to poor students
In the morning, the reporter with the relevant person in charge of the Changde branch of the Agricultural Bank of China, came to the community of Baiyun Village of Shimen County in the rain to visit an old couple retired from the Agricultural bank system: Wen Jingde, 90, and Nie Yuanfeng, 91, to listen to the story of Wen Jingde's 11 years of picking up waste.
On August 17 this year, Wen Jingde contacted Wen Fei, the person in charge of the Baiyun Foundation for Poverty Alleviation in Shimen County, and donated all the 20,000 yuan he had collected in the past 11 years to the foundation for funding poor students.
Wen Jingde is a veteran party member with 56 years of party experience. After the donation in August, his deeds were widely spread in Shimen county and touched many people. But he said: "This is what I should do."
In 2004, in order to support the construction of the national key project Zao City reservoir, Wen Jingde and his wife, who lived in their hometown, responded to the call of the state and moved to the youngest son's home in the Sulphong Factory community of Baiyun Township, Shimen County. He saw the local realgar mining area residents environmental health condition is not good, then bought a broom, as a volunteer cleaner. At the same time, he took the trouble to collect recyclable waste paper and plastic bottles from the garbage, and sold them every ten days and a half months, in exchange for more than ten or dozens of yuan. He wrote the money down in the ledger and deposited it in the bank. He believed that "it is all the property of the public, not of individuals." This year, he has 19,278 yuan in his bank account.
Wen Jingde is 90 years old this year, he really can't find money. After discussing with his wife, he decided to raise 20,000 yuan and donate it to the student aid Foundation.
Wen Fei, head of the foundation, said that since its establishment 22 years ago, the foundation has raised 1.81 million yuan and helped 416 poor students. Wen Jingde set a new record in 22 years for having the most difficult source of donations and the oldest donor.
