FRX Polymers introduces non-halogenated flame retardants for PUR foam

FRX Polymers has launched a line of non-halogenated flame retardants under the brand name Nofia.

This non-halogenated flame retardant product is suitable for high temperature polyurethane soft foam in transportation, electronics and other industries.

The Nofia flame retardant (FRs) is a non-halogenated polyphosphonate that can be added in powder form or as a liquid polyol solution. It can be used as a flame retardant and heat stabilizer to make polyurethane soft foam compliant with UL 94 V-0 fire protection standards. According to the company, the foam added with the flame retardant retains its mechanical properties after thermal aging tests at 150 degrees Celsius.

Applications include under-hood parts for cars, cushions and gaskets for electric vehicle battery packs, and foams used to reduce noise, vibration and irsmoothness in various transportation components. It can also be used in gaskets for electrical and electronic parts that meet UL 94 V-0 requirements.

During the development process, FRX worked with its customers, who sought an alternative material for expendable graphite in the disposable PU foaming process for automotive engine covers. Ina Jiang, Vice President of Sales and Marketing for

FRX Polymers, said: "The benefits of our unique non-halogenated flame retardants are proven, providing key advantages in addition to flame retardancy in a variety of applications. This is yet another example of the breakthrough performance Nofia polyphosphonates are capable of achieving."
