Sumitomo DeMag consolidates product portfolio to focus on all-electric injection molding machines

As part of consolidating its product portfolio and intensifying its focus on electric drive technology, German plastic machine supplier Sumitomo (SHI) Demag has launched an extensive investment program at its two production sites in Germany.

The company announced the decision on July 1, taking into account the growing demand for all-electric injection molding machines and the continuing decline in the price differential between hydraulic and all-electric injection molding machines.

Sumitomo DeMag has increased its market share in Italy threefold in the past three years.

According to Sumitomo DeMag, its IntElect line of products has grown faster than expected. Nearly half of all injection molding machines sold in the past 12 months came from the all-electric IntElect line.

To meet the growing demand, the leading injection molding machine supplier announced on July 1 that it will establish a global competitiveness center for electric injection molding machines at its location in Vihe, Germany.

The facility is expected to increase production on the production line by 30 percent.

The company is also expected to optimize its entire production process and increase the annual capacity of the Vieux plant to 1,000 all-electric machines.

"All-electric injection molding machines such as the IntElect series have become technologically mature, and after considering all the standard conditions, more and more customers are finding the series attractive," explains Gerd Liebig, CEO of Sumitomo (SHI) DeMag.

In addition, the development of all-electric injection molding machines is also driven by technological advantages, such as power, accuracy, repeatability, process stability and energy efficiency.

" The IntElect series is our main product for the future." "Liebig noted.

"The consolidation of our portfolio is a response to market demand and will make us a more reliable and stable partner for our customers," he added.
