The EU passed a bill to completely ban single-use plastic products from 2021

China news network March 28, according to foreign media reports, local time 28, in order to prevent plastic products pollution of the sea, the European Parliament overwhelmingly voted to pass a bill, which stipulates that from 2021 onwards will completely ban the use of disposable plastic products such as drinking pipes, tableware and cotton swabbing in EU countries.

According to reports, the European Parliament passed the bill by an overwhelming majority of 560 votes in favor, 35 votes against, and 28 abstentions. The bill explicitly bans the use of 10 items of disposable plastic products, such as disposable tableware, food bags, straws, drink cups, safety bottles (a kind of plastic bottle). Member states are also encouraged to phase out the use of plastic packaging and adopt stricter labelling rules. European Commission Vice President Franstim Timmermans said Europe was not the worst place for plastic pollution, but the measure could be a model for the world. He said Asian and Latin American countries were interested in the approach and that the model would have global implications.

A previous European Union study on environmental pollution from plastic waste reportedly found that up to 8 million tons of plastic are estimated to enter the oceans each year. One MEP said that without action, "there will be more plastic than fish in the oceans by 2050."
