The EVOH film market is expected to grow by 5% annually through 2028

According to a newly released market study by Fact.MR(Pune, India), EVOH films for the packaging industry are expected to grow at a healthy 4.7% CAGR over the decade from 2018 to 2028. The study notes that demand from the food and beverage industry will remain strong as manufacturers invest in innovative packaging technologies to appeal to a wider group of environmentally friendly consumers. EVOH films are highly tolerant to oxygen and carbon dioxide, making them the preferred packaging material.

The EVOH film remains a "practical packaging solution for the food and beverage market due to its excellent anti-contamination properties," the report said. One of the main benefits of using EVOH film packaging in these markets is an extended shelf life.

The growing demand for flexible packaging solutions in medical, personal care, cosmetics and electronics continues to benefit packaging manufacturers. Leading packaging manufacturers are focusing on the additional features of EVOH films, such as cost effectiveness and sealing strength.

" Growth in the e-commerce segment is likely to remain a key growth parameter for the EVOH film packaging market, "said a lead analyst at Fact.MR." With the advent of various retail goods, modern consumers are more inclined to buy perishable items online, creating a huge demand for sustainable packaging solutions. EVOH film, as a food packaging solution, can effectively retain the flavour, freshness and aroma of food products and prevent contamination during transportation. Leading manufacturers of EVOH films are developing innovative food packaging solutions such as bags in boxes and liquid food protection bags to gain a competitive edge in the packaging market."

The increasing industrial application of barrier packaging materials has also created demand for raw materials with special properties among market players in the EVOH film packaging market. Japanese EVOH food packaging film producer Kuraray, which recently acquired Us-Based company Calgon Carbon, will increase the use of filter media products in the manufacturing process to provide high quality and sustainable EVOH films to the packaging market, the report noted.

Smurfit Kappa Group, a European packaging company, is working to develop high-performance packaging solutions for the beverage market using innovative raw materials. The company recently launched a new type of thermo-sensitive in-bag packaging product using HDPE, LLDPE and EVOH films to meet the requirements of the hot filling process in the production of various beverages. Smurfit uses a combination of these raw materials, taking advantage of their special properties such as heat resistance, flexibility and oxygen resistance to extend the service life of the products, the report said. The company has been "relentless in developing high-performance packaging materials to bring higher product quality to consumers and gain a competitive edge in the EVOH film packaging market."
