The ban on the sale of plastic bottled water at San Francisco Airport has officially taken effect

Beijing, August 21, according to the "Central News Agency" reported, local time on the 20th, the United States California San Francisco International Airport officially banned the sale of plastic bottled water. This regulation is in response to the municipal government's policy of reducing disposable plastic products. Airport officials say they hope to become the first "zero waste" airport by 2021.

Airport shops, vending machines or restaurants will reportedly no longer sell bottled water that is less than a litre. Passengers are being encouraged to bring their own jugs or buy glass or aluminum containers at airport stores to hold water in. An average of 9,000 bottles of bottled water are sold at the airport every day, and we do all we can to minimize our impact on the environment, the airport's official account said in a post on social media.

Single-use plastic products are reported to be one of the main culprits of climate change. Millions of tons of plastic enter landfills and oceans every year, taking thousands of years to break down.

Measures in San Francisco to reduce the use of plastic products include banning the sale of plastic bottles on city land or leased land, and banning the use of city funds to buy bottled water.
