The earnest instructions are still ringing in my ears, and the voice of concern is urging us to forge ahead.

From October 15 to 16, General Secretary Xi Jinping visited Fujian and delivered an important speech. The first stop was Zhangzhou, which fully demonstrated the General Secretary's care and love for Fujian and Zhangzhou. In recent days, the majority of cadres and the masses have earnestly studied and implemented the spirit of the General Secretary's important speech during his inspection in Fujian. Everyone has expressed that they must keep the instructions in mind and set off again, take the lead, stick to the goal, and draw a blueprint to the end, accelerate the construction of a modern coastal city, and make every effort to create a new important growth pole for high-quality development in the province, so as to promote the spirit of General Secretary Xi Jinping's important speech to take root and bear fruit in Zhangzhou.

The reform tide is rising and the wind is strong, and it is time to set sail. Following the direction guided by General Secretary Xi Jinping, Zhangzhou has gathered its strength and moved forward courageously, setting sail towards the goal of building a modern coastal city.

Do a good job in the "sea"

In the golden autumn of October, Dongshan Balangyu ushers in the peak season for listing.

On October 15, General Secretary Xi Jinping visited Aojiao Village in Dongshan, just as the fishing boats returned to the port and the fish were full.

"When the General Secretary visited our village, he said that rural revitalization should still give full play to its advantages and do a good job in the "sea". He also recalled the local specialties here, and the taste of dried balang fish with porridge is endless." Xu Yaxue, a villager in Aojiao Village, recalled the scene when the General Secretary visited, and still couldn't hide her excitement. "These days, many tourists come to the village and ask to try balang fish."

It is hard to imagine that the balang fish, which is loved by people, was once the cheapest fish in this sea.

"The meat of wild balang fish is dry. In the early years, people in Dongshan pickled it into small dried fish to eat, and the market price was only five or six yuan per catty." Lin Jindong, a large balang fish farmer in Dongshan County, recalled that at that time, in the eyes of Dongshan people, balang fish was classified as an inconspicuous "miscellaneous fish".

The reversal of fate began with an "accident".

In 2018, when Lin Jindong was raising silver and blue fish fry in his own farm, he accidentally let several wild barramundi fry sneak into the net cage. When the fishing season came, he was surprised to find that these barramundi were not only strong in size, but also fat and oily after cooking, which changed the dry and woody taste of wild barramundi. People who have eaten it said it was good. Seeing the business opportunity, Lin Jindong decided to try to incorporate wild barramundi into the "regular army" of the fish farm.

Barramundi swims fast, consumes a lot of energy, and eats a lot, but if you feed them too much, they will die from indigestion. After experiencing the "annihilation" of 30 cages of fish fry, Lin Jindong gradually figured out the rules of feeding, and established a breeding cooperation alliance with Da Beinong Aquatic Feed Company, set up a laboratory at the base, and the company's scientific research team helped solve various problems in barramundi breeding.

After the "transformation", the barramundi has a short growth cycle, delicate meat, oily taste and high nutritional value. It has become a more popular fish for artificial breeding than wild products, and its value has increased by about ten times.

In 2022, Lin Jindong started the "base + large households" cooperation model, providing technical guidance and management to barramundi farmers free of charge, helping farmers to feed scientifically while conducting quality inspection and repurchase of finished fish. Today, there are more than 2,000 people engaged in barramundi breeding in Dongshan County, and barramundi and its processed products account for about two-thirds of the total local aquatic product exports.

This year, Lin Jindong's breeding base and Xiamen University and Guangdong Ocean University carried out school-local cooperation, striving to build an artificial breeding group of barramundi and complete the cultivation and breeding of offspring seedlings to achieve "barramundi freedom".

With the second largest sea area in the province, Zhangzhou firmly grasps its resource advantages and realizes more varieties of "seafood freedom".

In recent years, Zhangzhou City has implemented the seed industry revitalization action in depth, focused on building aquatic seed industry brands, and won two national signs of "China's Abalone Seedling Capital" and "China's Clam Seedling Capital"; implemented seed industry innovation and industrialization engineering projects, and successively cultivated new varieties and new strains such as "Xinjifu" tilapia, pearl dragon gall grouper, and "Big Puffer No. 1" Oriental Puffer, and promoted the breeding area of more than 60,000 acres.

Seafood has a "new taste" and more "new ways to eat".

Next to the Aojiao Fishing Port Wharf, many houses along the street have hung signs of seafood e-commerce, forming a distinctive e-commerce street. Every day, a large number of frozen and dried seafood are shipped from here to China.

Shen Zhihui, the former "captain" and now the leader of the village's e-commerce entrepreneurship, recalled: "More than 20 years ago, fishermen relied on a wooden boat to support their family's livelihood. They went out to sea to fish and fought against the wind and waves, facing the test of life and death. We often say that "a person's life depends on his life."

In the past 10 years, riding on the east wind of e-commerce, more and more "captains" represented by Shen Zhihui have come ashore to become anchors in Aojiao Village. From a few sporadic micro-business e-commerce companies in 2016, Aojiao Village has developed to 117 companies now, creating more than 600 jobs and annual sales of 350 million yuan.

With the honors of "China Civilized Village", "China's Most Beautiful Fishing Village" and "Fujian Province Gold Medal Tourism Village" being awarded to Aojiao Village, the local tourism industry has become more and more popular. During holidays such as "May 1st" and "National Day", an average of 3,000 tourists are received every day. Seizing the opportunity of rural cultural tourism, Shen Zhihui's industrial map has also become more diversified. The family has developed a "one-stop" business of homestays, sea fishing and catering.

"With the continuous improvement of the village's infrastructure, the villagers are looking forward to catching the wave of "overwhelming wealth" from rural cultural tourism, and their lives are getting more and more prosperous!" Shen Zhihui said.

Lin Huazhong, secretary of the Party Committee of Aojiao Village, said that the village will keep the instructions in mind and continue to focus on "a fish, a sea, and a street", constantly strengthen modern fisheries, refine coastal tourism, and expand e-commerce, and take the road of rural revitalization with the sea to prosper and strengthen the village.

Like Aojiao Village, more and more small fishing villages in Zhangzhou have started a "new way of eating" by the sea. The city has created 22 provincial-level "water fishing villages", and cultivated four provincial-level characteristic (fishery) billion-yuan strong villages, namely Aojiao Village in Chencheng, Dongshan (aquatic e-commerce), Tiancuo Village in Meiling, Zhao'an County (fishery), Dongban Village in Fotan, Zhangpu (pufferfish), and Beijiang Village in Xiamei, Gulei.

"We will bear the instructions in mind and go all out to do a good job in the "sea" and inject more "blue kinetic energy" into high-quality development." A relevant person in charge of the Municipal Ocean and Fisheries Bureau said that Zhangzhou will give full play to its marine resource advantages, coordinate the construction of Zhao'an Bay and Dongshan Bay to create a national marine ranch demonstration area, and orderly develop deep-sea equipment aquaculture; relying on the Zhangpu Liuao Wind Farm Phase II project, promote the "offshore wind farm + deep-sea aquaculture" pilot test, and build a new model of offshore "wind-fishing integration" development; focus on promoting the construction of "one bank and one institute" (Southern Fujian Germplasm Resource Bank, China Southern Marine Biological Research Institute), strengthen the protection and utilization of germplasm resources, further improve and strengthen the marine fishery industry, and strive to build a "marine granary".

Building a green "family foundation"

The waves of the forest are gushing, and the Casuarinas are towering like a canopy.

Now, taking over the "baton" of old Secretary Gu Wenchang, the people of Dongshan have extended this green from the island to the ocean, and the island and the sea have become an inseparable "life community", building a large pattern of protection and governance.

Take the Bashimen seawall as an example. More than 60 years ago, under the strong promotion of Secretary Gu Wenchang, the Bashimen seawall project turned the natural barrier into a thoroughfare; more than 60 years later, the seawall cut off the water exchange between Zhao'an Bay and Dongshan Bay, causing the water quality of the sea area to deteriorate, and the Bashimen seawall "retired after completing its mission".

"Dongshan County has made great efforts to carry out ecological restoration of Bashimen, including seawall penetration, sea area dredging, cage withdrawal, shoreline regulation and restoration, and many other aspects." Li Xiande, assistant to the general manager of Dongshan Urban Investment Co., Ltd., who participated in the ecological restoration, introduced that 1.39 million cubic meters of silt were excavated from Bashimen. After planning, Dongshan County planted more than 3,000 mu of mangrove seedlings such as red sea olive and autumn candel in phases and batches along the Bashimen sea area. The silt cleared from the seabed happened to be used as the bottom filler of mangrove seedlings. This move not only dredged the seabed, but also planted "coastal green lungs", killing two birds with one stone.

Nowadays, more than 3,000 mu of mangrove seedlings are growing vigorously in the downstream of the Bashimen sea area. With the improvement of water quality, green eels and pink eels that have been hard to see for many years have reappeared in Bashimen.

"The General Secretary said that leading cadres at all levels should learn from Comrade Gu Wenchang, establish a correct view of political achievements, serve as officials and benefit the people, work hard and persevere, and establish a monument in the hearts of the people. Keeping in mind the instructions, we must protect this mangrove forest and let it thrive. In addition, the second and third phases of wooden plank roads will be built to connect the Bashimen mangrove scenic area, and corresponding rest areas, public toilets, and docks will be provided to enrich the tourism industry." Li Xiande said that when the trees have grown into a forest, Dongshan Bay will definitely be more beautiful.

This green is still extending. "We diving enthusiasts found that there were a lot of abandoned fishing nets, tires, plastics and other garbage on the seabed, so we simply established the Dongshan County Marine Conservation Volunteer Association, which absorbed more than 20 professional divers and more than 100 other volunteers." Ou Hanchao, president of the Dongshan County Marine Conservation Volunteer Association, said that now they go into the water at least 12 times a year to clean up the seabed garbage, and have recycled and removed nearly 40 tons of garbage in total; at the same time, the association has formed a professional marine sanitation team and produced IP, cultural and creative products and promotional songs for Dongshan's marine protection.

"Next, we will continue to call on more divers or young people to join the association, continue to salvage marine garbage, and continue to carry out beach cleaning operations, so that green waters and green mountains can become gold and silver mountains." Ou Hanchao said.

Protecting the "green background" of the ecological environment, and constantly enhancing the balance, coordination and sustainability of development, green has become the most beautiful background color in Zhangzhou.

A relevant person in charge of the Dongshan County Cultural and Tourism Bureau said that now, Dongshan's ecological green is well-known, complementing the blue ocean, making the people rich a reality. The county has focused on developing "eight major industries" such as marine sports tours, sailing and windsurfing tours, and launched the "Sea Tour Dongshan" boutique route to make a big deal about the marine economy. In the 61 villages in Dongshan County, the collective income of all villages exceeded 200,000 yuan, of which 22 villages exceeded 1 million yuan. The county is on the road to prosperity, and Dongshan is truly worthy of its name.

From Dongshan to Zhangzhou, it has become a consensus in Zhangzhou to prosper towards green. In conjunction with the 100-day campaign to tackle prominent ecological and environmental issues, Zhangzhou has thoroughly implemented the "four major projects" action plan for blue sky, clear water, blue sea and clean land, and promoted the improvement of various ecological and environmental indicators in the city.

"We will keep the entrustment in mind and adhere to the bottom line requirement that "the quality of the ecological environment can only get better and not worse", so that the ecological foundation of high-quality development will be more solid." Protect the "roots" and "soul"

On October 15, General Secretary Xi Jinping came to the Guandi Cultural Industrial Park in Dongshan County, Zhangzhou City, and listened to the local introduction of strengthening cultural heritage protection and promoting cross-strait cultural exchanges. He emphasized that cultural heritage is a precious wealth left by our ancestors, and it must be well protected and passed on.

Facing the vast Dongshan Bay, the Guandi Cultural Industrial Park is majestic. Here, there is a group of old people racing against time.

"If we don't sort it out and rescue it, the old stories will be submerged forever." In the morning, 84-year-old Sun Yongchuan invited several like-minded friends to inspect the protection of cultural relics and ancient houses in the ancient city of Dingjie, Tongling.

Since Dongshan County launched the "Historical and Cultural Town Revitalization Plan" in 2014, a group of retired cadres, retired workers, retired teachers, retired fishermen and other elderly people, represented by Sun Yongchuan, have formed the Tongshan Ancient City Cultural Development Promotion Association to carefully protect the ancient city.

"The Lunzhang Chuiyao Archway was established by the Ming Dynasty court to commend Tongshan Jinshi Tang Wencan for establishing the education cause in his hometown. It is the only archway from the Ming Dynasty that has survived in Dongshan County to this day and was once severely damaged." Sun Yongchuan said that the promotion association called for the restoration of the "Lunzhang Chuiyao Archway". The "Tongshan Ancient City Protection and Development Leading Group" established by Dongshan County adopted the suggestion and completed the restoration in July 2022.

The years have passed, but the beauty is still there. The people on the island never forget to protect the cultural heritage.

"Whether it is immovable cultural relics such as ancient buildings, ancient sites, important modern and contemporary historical sites and representative buildings, ancient tombs, or movable cultural relics in museums, we must protect and pass them on well." Since 2020, the city has secured a total of 117 million yuan in special funds for cultural relics protection, which have been used for the protection and repair of 109 projects; in 2023, Zhangzhou successfully completed the excavation of the Yuan Dynasty shipwreck site on Shengbei Island, and a total of 17,288 cultural relics were unearthed, filling the gap in China's Yuan Dynasty shipwreck archaeological research.

On October 18, the "Five Tigers" created by Lin Shengzhang won the gold medal in the physical category of the Second Cross-Strait (Fujian Dongshan) Guandi Cultural and Creative Competition.
