PPC, also known as polymethylethylene carbonate, is a completely degradable and environmentally friendly plastic synthesized from carbon dioxide and propylene oxide.
Polypropylene carbonate is soluble in polar solvents such as low ketones, ethyl acetate, methylene chloride and chlorinated hydrocarbons, and insoluble in solvents such as alcohols, water and aliphatic hydrocarbons. It also forms a stable emulsion in water. PPC allows gases such as oxygen to diffuse through it. The glass temperature (Tg) is between 25 and 45буC, and the PPC adhesive is amorphous. The glass temperature of PPC is slightly higher than that of polyethylene carbonate (PEC).
Its refractive index is 1.46, while the dielectric constant is 3.
Polypropylene carbonate is used to increase the toughness of some epoxy resins. It is used as a sacrificial adhesive in the ceramic industry, decomposing and evaporating during the sintering process. It has a low sodium content, making it suitable for the preparation of dielectric materials and electric ceramics such as piezoelectric ceramics.
Composites of polycarbonate and starch (PPC/starch) are used as biodegradable plastics.
