Plastic mold making process

In industrial production, various presses and special tools installed on the presses are used to press metal or non-metal materials to make parts or products of the required shape. Such special tools are collectively called molds.

Injection molding process description

A mold is a tool for producing plastic products. It is composed of several groups of parts, and this combination has a molding cavity. During injection molding, the mold is clamped on the injection molding machine, and the molten plastic is injected into the molding cavity and cooled and shaped in the cavity. Then the upper and lower molds are separated, and the product is ejected from the mold cavity by the ejection system. Finally, the mold is closed for the next injection molding. The entire injection molding process is a cycle.

General classification of molds

(1) Non-plastic molds

A. Casting molds - faucets, cast iron platforms

B. Forging molds - car bodies

C. Stamping molds - computer panels

D. Die casting mold - super alloy, cylinder block

(2) Different production processes of plastic molds

A. Injection molding mold - TV housing, keyboard buttons (most commonly used)

B. Blow mold - beverage bottles

C. Compression molding mold - Bakelite switches, scientific porcelain bowls and plates

D. Transfer molding mold - integrated circuit products

E. Extrusion molding mold - glue tube, plastic bag

F. Thermoforming mold - transparent molding packaging shell

G. Rotational molding mold - soft plastic doll toys

Injection mold composition

(1) Injection molding is the most commonly used method in plastic processing. This method is applicable to all thermoplastics and some thermosetting plastics. The number of plastic products produced is far beyond the reach of other molding methods. As one of the main tools for injection molding, the injection mold has a direct impact on the quality, output, cost and product updates of the product in terms of quality accuracy, manufacturing cycle and production efficiency during the injection molding process. It also determines the company's responsiveness and speed in market competition.

(2) Injection molds are composed of several steel plates and various parts, which are basically divided into:

A Molding device (die, punch)

B Positioning device (guide pin, guide sleeve)

C Fixing device (I-beam, code mold pit)

D Cooling system (water transport hole)

E Constant temperature system (heating tube, heating wire)

F Runner system (nozzle hole, runner groove, runner hole)

G Ejector system (ejector pin, ejector rod)

It is divided into three categories

(1) Large sprue mold: The runner and gate are on the parting line and are demolded together with the product when the mold is opened. It has the simplest design, is easy to process and has a low cost, so many people use the large sprue system.

(2) Fine-gate mold: The runner and gate are not on the parting line, but are generally directly on the product, so an additional set of gate parting lines must be designed. The design is more complex and the processing is more difficult. Generally, the fine-gate system should be selected according to the product requirements.

(3) Hot runner mold: The structure of this type of mold is basically the same as that of the fine-gate. The biggest difference is that the runner is in one or more hot runner plates and hot nozzles with constant temperature. There is no cold material demoulding. The runner and gate are directly on the product, so the runner does not need to be demoulded. This system is also called a no-gate system, which can save raw materials. It is suitable for situations where raw materials are expensive and product requirements are high. It is difficult to design and process, and the mold cost is high.
