42 major plastics producers in the UK sign UK Plastics Agreement for the first time
British media including the BBC reported that 42 British retailers and manufacturers, including a number of Chinese supermarkets, announced the signing of the "UKPlastic Agreement" (UKPlasticsPact), which is also the first agreement signed by businesses in the UK to reduce plastic pollution. The agreement promises that 100% of the plastic packaging used by all signatories by 2025 is recyclable, recyclable and degradable.
The UK Plastics Pact also includes commitments to reduce consumers' use of single-use plastic packaging through improved packaging design over the next seven years; Ensuring that 70% of plastic packaging is effectively recycled or degraded, and that all plastic packaging should contain 30% recyclable content.
It is reported that 80% of plastic packaging in the UK comes from these companies, and less than half is recycled. Century-old Marks& Spencer (Marks& Amp; Spencer has announced that it will recycle 100% of the plastic packaging in its products.
At present, the British government has implemented a policy of charging 5 pence (about 0.44 yuan) per plastic shopping bag in large supermarkets in China (according to more than 250 employees), and the royal family has said that it will ban plastic drinking straws and declare war on plastic waste. The British government's environment secretary also said that this is the responsibility of the whole society.
