Pilot whales are mainly distributed in tropical and temperate waters such as the Pacific Ocean, Indian Ocean and Atlantic Ocean. The boundary between the head and the trunk of the pilot whale is not clear, which makes their head appear large, hence the name "pilot whale".
Pilot whales are timid and have the habit of swimming in groups. Pilot whales mate in warm waters in February-March each year. The gestation period is about a few months, and the young born are 1.4 meters long and suckle for 20 months. Pilot whales do not reach sexual maturity until they are several years old, and adults are typically 5 to 7 meters long.
