Recently, a consumer reported to China Economic Net that the Breakthrough Bodyguard socket he bought quickly burned when exposed to open flames, and did not extinguish itself after leaving the fire source until the entire socket was completely burned.
To confirm this, the reporter of China Economic Net contacted the consumer Ms. Li and bought two breakout bodyguard sockets in a supermarket in Beijing. He used an ordinary gas lighter as an open flame source to test the fire resistance and flame retardancy of one of the sockets, model TZ-Y/TZ-Q0911K2, and filmed the whole process. The result confirmed that what the consumer said was true.
It takes 4-5 seconds to ignite with an ordinary lighter
The reporter later saw from the video that it only took 4-5 seconds from the lighter flame burning the breakout bodyguard socket to the breakout bodyguard socket producing flames. After the lighter was extinguished, the breakout socket was still
burning violently, the fire was getting bigger and bigger, and a lot of black smoke and pungent smell were produced, with no signs of self-extinguishing.

The reporter observed that the national standard adopted by the Breakthrough Bodyguard socket is: GB2099.1/GB2099.3. The flame retardant performance of the product characteristics marked on its packaging is "anaerobic flame retardant: engineering plastic, containing anaerobic factors, excellent flame retardant performance. The flame retardant performance of the material meets the UL94 international standard."

The flame retardant level of plastics increases from HB, V-2, V-1 to V-0:
1. HB: The lowest flame retardant level in the UL94 standard. It is required that for samples with a thickness of 3 to 13 mm, the burning speed is less than 40 mm per minute; for samples with a thickness of less than 3 mm, the burning speed is less than 70 mm per minute; or it goes out before the 100 mm mark.
2. V-2: After two 10-second combustion tests on the sample, the flame goes out within 60 seconds. Burning objects can fall off.
3. V-1: After two 10-second combustion tests on the sample, the flame goes out within 60 seconds. Burning objects cannot fall off.
4. V-0: After two 10-second combustion tests on the sample, the flame goes out within 30 seconds. No burning objects can fall.
In this regard, Breakthrough Electric only marked "the flame retardant performance of the material meets the UL94 international standard" on the product, but did not mark the corresponding flame retardant level.
After the combustion test of the Breakthrough socket, Ms. Li, a consumer who has always been a loyal fan of the Breakthrough socket, could not believe her eyes. "The flame retardant performance of the Breakthrough socket can hardly reach the lowest level of the UL94 international standard, but its packaging claims that the flame retardant performance is excellent. It is really disappointing and terrible!" Ms. Li said angrily: "What other expert advice is there? Which expert's advice is it? "The Breakthrough socket that does not burn when exposed to open flames" is completely false propaganda and misleading consumption------"
On September 7, China Economic Net gave feedback to Breakthrough Electric Co., Ltd. on this matter.
On September 10, Breakthrough Company made a written reply to China Economic Net on this matter, explaining that: "The "expert advice" mentioned is a slogan for the company's products. It is not targeted at a specific product, but is a recommendation for users to buy our high-end products."
"The question raised is a deviation in the understanding of the company's packaging promotional language. All series of our products meet the requirements of national standards."
"For the UL94 content mentioned in the letter, its testing is for raw materials, and it must be tested with standard specimens, standard flames and standard combustion methods, not for products. Therefore, it is not rigorous and serious to use finished products to test and give a qualified judgment. Our products of this type meet the requirements."
What is puzzling is that Breakthrough Company's response is not targeted at a specific product, nor did it mention which product it targeted. So why did it use this promotional language on multiple packaging that does not apply this promotional language? The company's so-called testing is only for raw materials, not for finished products. Do consumers know this situation?
The person in charge of the company explained to the reporter that the international standard adopted by the flame retardant material of the product tested by the reporter is UL94-HB, but why it is only marked as UL94 on the packaging, while the standard contains 4 levels, HB is the lowest level, and the lowest and highest are far apart.
The reporter found in the investigation that Breakthrough socket is a socket brand with high consumer recognition. Many consumers have always purchased it as a high-end brand, and its safety performance publicity of "not burning when encountering open flames" has become one of the important factors considered by consumers when purchasing its products.
On the official website of Beijing Breakthrough Electric Co., Ltd. and its promotional soft articles and advertisements placed in a large number of well-known media, Breakthrough bodyguard sockets have always promoted "not burning when encountering open flames" as the biggest selling point of the brand to the public. This promotional phrase has become the basic cognition of many consumers about the Breakthrough electrical socket brand.
As of press time, the reporter still saw Breakthrough sockets with the promotional phrase "not burning when encountering open flames" on the packaging for sale in some large supermarkets in Beijing. How many "burn quickly when exposed to fire" sockets has Breakthrough Electric sold with this promotional phrase? What kind of misunderstanding will these sockets cause among consumers? What potential risks will they pose?
