Datong, Shanxi: Smart garbage sorting is the first to be tried and the first to benefit
On July 1, 2019, Shanghai officially implemented the "Shanghai Municipal Domestic Waste Management Regulations", which included "waste classification" in the legal framework. The regulations stipulate that individuals who mix garbage will be fined up to 200 yuan in the future; units that mix and transport garbage will be fined up to 50,000 yuan, which has attracted social attention. Shortly thereafter, the General Office of the Shanxi Provincial Government issued the "Shanxi Province Urban Human Settlement Environment Improvement Action Plan (2019-2022)", which proposed that by 2020, Taiyuan City will basically complete the domestic waste classification and treatment system. Other cities with districts will achieve full coverage of domestic waste classification in public institutions, and at least one street will basically build a domestic waste classification demonstration area. By 2022, at least one district will achieve full coverage of domestic waste classification, and at least one street in other districts will basically build a domestic waste classification demonstration area.
In Datong, as early as the end of 2017, the pilot work of urban domestic waste classification was launched. The relevant departments carried out pilot projects of smart waste classification in Golden Waterfront Oasis Community and Experimental Primary School, and actively invested in the deployment of intelligent waste classification and recycling equipment, domestic waste incineration power generation, and sludge drying treatment expansion. They also carried out extensive publicity and guidance among residents, so that the promotion of waste classification achieved good results.
Environmental protection is fashionable and garbage classification has become a habit
"Our garbage recycling must also keep pace with the times. In the past, every household's garbage was placed at the doorstep or dumped on the road not far from home, and then the sanitation workers cleaned it up. The dirt and mess were obvious. In the past few years, Datong City has increased its investment in urban infrastructure and placed plastic and aluminum trash cans and fruit peel bins on the streets. Although these trash cans are divided into recyclable garbage and non-recyclable garbage, for various reasons, garbage classification has not been truly realized." A person in charge of Datong Xincheng Sanitation Company said in an interview with a reporter from Shanxi Evening News that garbage classification is the general trend, and intelligent garbage classification and recycling aims to encourage citizens to improve their awareness of garbage classification and protect the living environment. Garbage classification can enable citizens to change their habits and ways of throwing garbage and establish environmental protection awareness.
Scan the QR code to get a garbage bag; drop off waste items and the weight will be automatically displayed...Since the end of 2017, after the Datong Municipal Administration Committee and Xincheng Environmental Sanitation Company placed this set of intelligent garbage sorting and recycling equipment in the Golden Waterfront Oasis Community, it has become a habit for residents to swipe their cards and accumulate points when throwing garbage. "Waste plastics can be recycled and exchanged for prizes." On August 18, when a reporter from Shanxi Evening News interviewed a resident who was holding a bag of old toys and preparing to put them in, she took a smart card and swiped it into the machine mouth, selected the "plastic" button, and the weighing platform immediately calculated the weight, the garbage delivery port also opened automatically, and all the garbage in the hands of the residents was thrown into the corresponding intelligent garbage sorting box.
This set of equipment has a garbage bag and gift automatic dispensing machine and 4 recyclable recycling bins. The 4 recycling bins are divided into 4 categories: plastic, paper, glass, and metal. "This equipment realizes the recycling of resources and has important environmental value." A community manager said, "And citizens can accumulate points through garbage classification, which can be exchanged for gifts on the machine or in the corresponding cooperative supermarkets, which also mobilizes the enthusiasm of citizens to participate in garbage classification."
In the summer of 2018, Datong Supply and Marketing Cooperative and social enterprises continued to promote the garbage classification and treatment work in Datong City. At present, 10 recycling stations have been built in communities such as Greenland Century City. Through the construction of green and environmentally friendly recycling stations for renewable resources, Datong City will gradually form an environmentally friendly circular economic development model integrating community recycling, market distribution, and processing and utilization.
Shanxi Evening News reporters learned in an interview with Greenland Century City that not only scrap copper and iron are purchased here, but also clothes, wood, nylon bags, old quilts and glass with relatively low value, as well as batteries, fluorescent tubes and other waste that pollutes the environment. After the residents of the community put the classified waste into the trash can here, they will accumulate points on the sensor through the recycling card issued by the recycling company. The recycling company will then exchange the points for money, and the residents can also exchange the points for daily necessities.
The intelligent garbage classification system consists of three major hardware devices
The Shanxi Evening News reporter learned in an interview that the intelligent garbage classification system integrating "Internet +" technology consists of three major hardware devices: intelligent garbage bag dispensing machine, intelligent garbage classification box and intelligent recyclable garbage delivery box.
Smarter: Real-name delivery makes garbage traceable. The garbage bags collected by residents are printed with QR codes, and a one-household-one-code real-name system is implemented. After residents put out the garbage, they scan the QR code on the garbage bag and know which household the bag of garbage comes from and whether the garbage classification is accurate through the APP big data platform, so that the garbage can be traced. After the recyclable garbage is put in, the system weighs it by itself and accumulates the corresponding points.
More convenient: easy to operate and develop a good habit of garbage classification. Residents can put in garbage by scanning the QR code with their mobile phones or swiping the specially distributed smart QR code card, which is easy to operate.
More environmentally friendly: good sealing to avoid odor. Compared with traditional trash cans, smart trash cans have beautiful appearance and good sealing, which eliminates the unpleasant smell of exposed garbage.
Garbage classification has changed the lifestyle of residents
"This garbage classification system is great and should be promoted vigorously." Putting recyclable garbage into the smart garbage classification system has become a habit of Liu Wanda, a resident of Golden Waterfront Oasis Community. He has just retired and is a firm supporter and practitioner of garbage classification. When he is free, he enthusiastically guides other residents on how to use the smart garbage classification system. He said that China is advocating garbage classification, and everyone should practice it and make garbage classification a habit of life. The smart garbage classification box is very convenient to use. Such a good hardware device must be used to its full potential.
Ms. Wen, a resident of Golden Waterfront Oasis Community, takes her 2-year-old grandson to play in the community every day. After the intelligent garbage classification and recycling equipment was put into use, it added a lot of fun to the lives of Ms. Wen and her grandson. "When he saw residents using the smart garbage sorting system, the door of the box opened automatically, and his grandson excitedly ran over to take a look." Ms. Wen also learned how to use it and taught her grandson to recognize garbage sorting. In her opinion, smart garbage sorting and recycling has also solved a major worry for their family - there is a place to recycle garbage such as beverage bottles, waste paper, and metal. Ms. Wen said: "In the past, there were always people collecting waste on the streets and alleys, but now there are no people collecting waste door-to-door. It's a pity to throw away these garbage, but if they are not thrown away, they will take up space, which is really entangled. This garbage recycling system solves the practical problems in our lives." Ms. Liu, a resident of Greenland Century City, said that the establishment of recycling outlets is very convenient and has greatly improved the dirty and messy environment of the community. In the past, the hawkers who collected waste had a single purchase of items, and they could not find a channel for old clothes, so they could only throw them into the community trash cans, especially batteries and scrapped electrical appliances, which would cause great harm to the environment. Now she only needs to call the recycling station in the community or send a WeChat message, and someone will come to take away the garbage in a few minutes.
