Garbage classification has given rise to online door-to-door recyclers who earn over 10,000 yuan a month by collecting garbage

The "Shanghai Municipal Domestic Waste Management Regulations" was officially implemented on July 1, and Shanghai's waste classification entered the "hard constraint era". With the advancement of relevant policies on "waste classification" in various places, it has not only promoted the transformation of waste into treasure, but also spawned a new profession of "door-to-door recyclers" for waste classification and recycling. They use the Internet to accept orders online and collect fixed types of waste at home. A door-to-door recycler said that he currently earns more than 10,000 yuan a month by "collecting garbage".

Online appointment for garbage collection within 30 minutes

As the name suggests, the "door-to-door recycler" for online garbage is that customers make an appointment online, and the offline recycling guy comes to the door to "pick up the items". At present, there are thousands of door-to-door recyclers in China.

"At present, you can make an appointment on Alipay to collect garbage at your doorstep, which is as convenient as sending a courier," said Tan Weiwei, head of Alipay's garbage classification and recycling platform. "You can order waste newspapers, cartons, plastic bottles, large household appliances, broken glass, etc. online and collect them at your doorstep for free."

It is reported that there are about two types of people engaged in the emerging profession of "door-to-door recyclers", one of which is full-time in garbage sorting work, and the other is part-time in related work. The work of full-time recyclers is generally divided into fixed-point recycling and door-to-door recycling. Some people do fixed-point recycling in the morning and door-to-door recycling in the afternoon. For example, employees of garbage sorting companies used to be responsible for receiving garbage collected by "guerrillas", sorting and packaging them, and then selling them to different types of garbage disposal companies; now, some employees in the company directly recycle from residents and become full-time recyclers. Part-time employees include cleaners in the community, property company employees, etc. They already have a job, and garbage recycling has increased their income.

According to Beijing Youth Daily reporters, it is also very convenient for users to use the garbage recycling program. For example, on the Alipay platform, open Alipay's "City Service", select "Garbage Sorting and Recycling", follow the process prompts to select the door-to-door address and door-to-door time, and then wait for the community recycler to come to the door. After weighing and calculating the price, the proceeds from selling the waste will be automatically transferred to the withdrawal account set by the residents. For low-value recyclables, "energy" can be exchanged by weight. For example, 1 kilogram of plastic bottles can be exchanged for 1 kilogram of "energy", which can then be exchanged for physical objects or coupons in the environmental protection mall.

Currently, there are more than 70 service providers on the Alipay garbage sorting and recycling platform, and all of these companies have the corresponding qualifications issued by the government. At the same time, a total of 15 cities in China have been connected to the Alipay garbage sorting and recycling platform, covering more than 40,000 communities.

Garbage trucks are as clean as express trucks

Luo Qi, who is in his 30s, is a "door-to-door recycler" of Shanghai Fang Fang Environmental Protection Technology Co., Ltd. He is responsible for garbage recycling in a community in Miaohang Town, Baoshan District. The area originally belonged to the company's recycling scope. Since January this year, the company has added door-to-door recyclers who specialize in "garbage recycling" to directly recycle some recyclables such as cartons, books and newspapers, and plastic bottles.

According to him, netizens can place orders online, and then the person in charge of the area can see these orders on the APP. Generally, they have to rush to the residents' homes within 30 minutes to recycle garbage. Usually, he rides a tricycle similar to a courier car and loads the recycled waste into the car.

"In January this year, when our site just started the recycling business, the daily volume was only 200 kilograms at most. Now it can reach one ton at most." As residents' awareness of garbage classification continues to increase, his workload has also continued to increase.

He said that although he is engaged in garbage recycling, he has to be particular about both himself and his car. He wears a uniform every day and wipes his car clean, and he does not think this job is "dirty."

Recyclers can earn up to 10,000 yuan a month

According to Luo Qi, he receives five or six door-to-door garbage collection orders every day. In exchange for some recyclables from the other party, he will also give the other party the corresponding amount according to the weight.

According to him, his salary is divided into two parts. One part is the basic salary given by the company, which is about 5,000 yuan. In addition to door-to-door recycling, he also needs to do garbage sorting, packaging and other work; the other part is the recycling price difference of recyclables. Part of the price difference between the listing price on the Alipay platform and the recycling price of the company belongs to the door-to-door recycler himself.

He believes that his salary is not low, especially in recent months, with the increasing attention paid by citizens to garbage sorting and the convenience of online appointments, the number of orders for door-to-door recycling has increased day by day. "If you work hard, you can earn more than 10,000 yuan a month."

Luo Qi, who used to be a food deliveryman, even found that "collecting garbage" earns more than the takeaway boy. "I just came to Shanghai and I'm not familiar with the routes. I'm often deducted for being late for delivering meals." Although door-to-door recyclers have to arrive as soon as possible, there is no provision for fines for being late.

After collecting the garbage, he transported it to the recycling transfer station. At the station, he and his colleagues sorted and packed the garbage, and then sent it to different factories for further processing. Thousands of kilograms of recyclables are collected every day. After simple treatment such as disinfection, they are transported from here to processing plants across China, and eventually become recyclable and reusable products and return to thousands of households.

For Roche and others, door-to-door recycling has greatly increased their income. However, the person in charge of the company said that although the online recycling business has developed rapidly, it is not yet profitable at the company level. Take waste paper boxes as an example. The market price of one ton of waste paper boxes is about 1,000 yuan, and the comprehensive cost of recycling and sorting exceeds 800 yuan. "But as the scale expands, this situation is expected to improve." Text/Reporter Wen Jing of this newspaper Coordination/Yu Meiying

Querying garbage classification in APP is popular

At present, more and more "garbage recycling" related APPs have appeared in the application market, such as Xiaohuanggou, Taofeibao, and Waste Recycling Alliance.

However, more APPs or mini-programs are used to help users query the classification of garbage.

For example, at present, there are more than 100 garbage classification mini-programs on the WeChat platform. The "How to sort household garbage" mini-program focuses on querying classification functions. You only need to enter the specific name to query the classification with one click. The "Garbage Classification Guide" mini-program has richer functions. It not only has a query guide, but also has functions such as tests, special topics, and classification pictures that can be downloaded. The "Garbage Classification Tool" mini-program can also be used for photo query. The "Garbage Classification" mini-game allows users to practice correct garbage classification in the game.

In the app market, you can search for dozens of apps named "Garbage Classification Guide" and "What Garbage Is This" to help users better classify different types of garbage. A garbage classification app claims that it currently covers more than 4,000 types of garbage and will continue to update.
