Jiangsu Province randomly inspected 120 batches of book cover samples and found that 40% of them did not meet the standards

Xinhua News Agency, Nanjing, February 18 special telegram (reporter Nie Ke) The new semester is about to begin, primary and secondary school students will receive a lot of new books and books, many schools will require students to cover the book. However, Jiangsu Provincial Quality Supervision Bureau released an analysis report on the 18th, said that in the recent sampling of 120 batches of book covers, book film samples, a total of 49 batches did not meet the relevant standards, some of the toxic substances may affect the health of children.

It is understood that the monitoring a total of 120 batches of samples, of which 75 batches of physical stores, 45 batches of e-commerce platforms, samples covering Zhejiang, Guangdong, Fujian, Jiangsu and other 7 provinces of 52 related production enterprises. The results of the sampling found that 27 samples exceeded the solvent residue standard in the relevant national recommended standards, and 32 batches exceeded the sum of benzene, toluene and xylene residues in the standards. Due to the lack of relevant standards in China, the monitoring also adopted the relevant regulations of the European Union to spot check the plasticizer contained in the book film and book cover, and 31 batches exceeded the relevant standards.

Ye Ping, deputy director of Taizhou Product Quality Supervision and Inspection Institute, who is responsible for the sampling inspection, told reporters that from the results of the sampling, the book film is more likely to contain toxic substances than the book cover. "This is because the former process to dissolve glue, and toxic substances are often out of the solvent used to dissolve glue, in use, toxic substances will volatilize out, through breathing, contact and other ways into the human body, to the health of students bring certain hidden dangers."

Ye Ping introduced that at present, China has not formulated standards for book wrap film or book cover, and there is no special production factory, generally plastic factories for processing, using different standards of production, so product quality is also varied. "In the 120 batches of products monitored, there are at least 10 kinds of standards implemented. More than half of the products did not have any standards, and the proportion of these products that went wrong was relatively high."
