Montreal, Canada plans to ban plastic bottles, but is boycotted by beverage associations

¡¾ Global Network comprehensive report ¡¿ According to the British "Independent" reported on March 19, the mayor of Montreal, Canada, Dennis Cordell expressed his intention to introduce an ordinance to ban the use of plastic bottles by people and businesses in the city. The ordinance is currently opposed by Coca-Cola, PepsiCo, Nestle and other companies.

It is reported that Dennis Cordell had earlier announced that plastic bags would be banned. The ban will be phased in starting in 2018.

The Canadian Beverage Association, which represents more than 60 companies including Coca-Cola, PepsiCo and Nestle, filed a document with the lobbyist registry in March. "The use of plastic bottles is both safe and convenient for customers, and banning plastic bottles would limit customers' rights of choice," the document said. "We hope that Montrealers will oppose this decision to ban plastic bottles."

Dennis Cordell responded: "We've talked about plastic bags before, and now we're going to talk about plastic bottles. The use of plastic causes environmental pollution." Cordell said earlier that in Quebec City, more than 700 million single-use plastic bottles end up in landfills each year, which is too much for the environment. He also said he would take appropriate measures to address the problem of plastic bottles, taking into account the interests of all parties. (Practice compilation: Shi Ping review: Mou Yanchen)
