Ningbo has found 4 cases of heat stroke, one person has been in a coma for 6 days and has not woken up

For the past two weeks, the temperature in Ningbo has remained above 37¡æ and refused to drop. The meteorological department has issued orange high temperature reports many times. In the emergency room of the hospital, the number of patients with heat stroke has increased. Following the discovery of heat stroke patients in Hangzhou, a Qianjiang Evening News reporter found yesterday that Ningbo also confirmed four heat stroke patients, three of which occurred in Cixi.

Heat stroke, which is one of the symptoms of heat stroke we usually say, is the most terrible one, with a mortality rate of up to 30%~50%. In the hot season, how to prevent heat stroke, the reporter asked the doctor and listed a few tricks for readers.

Two strong men fainted from heat while working

One just woke up, and the other was still in a coma

Yesterday, a Qianjiang Evening News reporter came to Cixi People's Hospital. Temporary beds were added to the available space in the emergency room ward, and the entire ward seemed very crowded.

Emergency Department Director Lv Jianjie was examining a patient in front of a bed. "The temperature has dropped today, but the spontaneous breathing is still not obvious, and the consciousness is not awake yet."

A man is lying on the bed, wearing a ventilator, with his eyes closed. The lady next to him said her surname was Li, and she was the man's sister. She told reporters that her brother was 39 years old, from Yunnan, and had just started working in a factory in Zhouxiang, Cixi, more than ten days ago.

"I heard that he was guarding a machine in the greenhouse of the factory, and suddenly fainted." Ms. Li said that her brother was in good health and didn't even have a small cold at home.

Dr. Lu said that the patient was admitted to the hospital on July 29 and had been in a coma for six days. When he was first sent to the hospital, his body temperature was 40.1 degrees, his consciousness was comatose, and his blood pressure was low. At present, the doctor is still helping him cool down, taking antipyretics, using ice cubes to cool down, and flushing the stomach with ice salt water.

The reporter learned that this summer, Cixi People's Hospital has received three patients with heat stroke, two of whom were sick during work.

Mr. Shi, 43, works in the injection molding workshop. Because the temperature in the workshop was too high, he was going to go out for some fresh air, but he fainted halfway through. Fortunately, he slowly regained consciousness yesterday, but he still had to be sent to the intensive care unit for further observation.

Reluctant to turn on the air conditioner and exercise in the hot weather

Two elderly people also suffered from heat stroke

"The number of patients suffering from heat stroke has increased significantly, but more of them are patients whose underlying diseases have worsened due to the hot weather." Yesterday, the emergency departments of several large general hospitals in Ningbo were overcrowded, and Lv Weixing, an emergency physician at Ningbo Second Hospital, told reporters.

The day before yesterday afternoon, a patient with heat stroke was also confirmed in Ningbo city, 72-year-old Uncle Yu. Yesterday, the old man was awake. "Fortunately, I was sent to the hospital in time. I will never go out to exercise in the hot weather again!"

Old man Yu said that he felt unwell on July 31. That day, he went out to exercise at around 4 p.m. as usual. After returning home, he felt particularly listless and his head was heavy and dizzy. He took his temperature and it was over 38 degrees, but he didn't care.

On August 1, Mr. Yu's condition became serious; on August 2, he began to twitch, his whole body spasmed uncontrollably, and he fainted on the ground. His wife quickly called the police.

When Mr. Yu was sent to the hospital, his body temperature had reached 40.1¡æ, his limbs were twitching, he had no consciousness, and he had not urinated. After examination, the doctor found that his heart and lung function had failed, and he was finally diagnosed with heat stroke.

Fortunately, the rescue was timely. Although Mr. Yu's temperature is still high, his renal function indicators have returned to normal and he needs to be hospitalized for further treatment and observation.

Another patient with heat stroke in Cixi is also an elderly person. 85-year-old Mr. Zhang suffers from asthma and cannot be exposed to cold weather. He is also very frugal. Even on hot days, he is reluctant to turn on electric fans and air conditioners. The family said that the illness was caused by the high temperature.

Heat stroke is a type of heat stroke

The mortality rate is as high as 30%~50%

What exactly is heat stroke?

Lv Jianjie, director of the emergency department of Cixi People's Hospital, said that heat stroke refers to the dysfunction of human body temperature regulation caused by high temperature, excessive accumulation of heat in the body, which causes damage to nerve organs and is a fatal disease.

The heat stroke we usually talk about is divided into three levels: light, medium and severe. The severe ones are divided into heat cramps, heat exhaustion and heat stroke. Among them, heat stroke is the most terrible one, with a mortality rate of 30%~50%, and even as high as 80% for patients over 50 years old.

"Heat stroke is characterized by high temperature and impaired consciousness. The three patients in Cixi were admitted to the hospital with the same condition, high temperature, coma, and respiratory failure." Director Lu said that heat stroke is clinically divided into two types: exertional and non-exertional (or typical) heat stroke. Mr. Shi and Mr. Li suffered from heat stroke caused by labor, mainly due to working in a high temperature environment; while Mr. Zhang's illness was non-labor-related, mainly for people with underlying diseases, such as cardiovascular disease, and those who have been bedridden for a long time. In a high temperature environment, the body temperature regulation dysfunction causes reduced heat dissipation.

Dr. Lu said that patients with heat stroke need to be observed and treated for at least two weeks, because the disease can cause damage to multiple organs such as the brain, liver, and kidneys, and subsequent related treatments will be required for a month to prevent sequelae. "There have been patients with heat stroke who have left brain dysfunction."

To prevent heat stroke, doctors give advice:

Eat a light diet and supplement with salt water appropriately

Director Lu reminded citizens that it is particularly important to prevent heatstroke and cool down in hot weather. Heat stroke usually occurs in summer when the weather is hot and humid.

"People who suffer from heat stroke are generally young and middle-aged people, and they are also the backbone of the family, so they should know how to protect themselves." He suggested that if you are working outdoors, you should avoid continuous labor under direct sunlight, try to stay in a ventilated environment, wear some breathable clothes, and supplement some salt water when necessary to prevent the loss of water and electrolytes.

The elderly who stay at home should also pay attention to rest, reduce going out when the temperature is high, and do not go in and out of the air-conditioned room frequently. Eat as light as possible and keep a good mood. Children should also go home more often to visit the elderly and care about their health.

Director Lu also called on some companies to pay more attention to employees on hot days, prepare more drinks such as pickled vegetable soup and mung bean soup, so that they can cool down regularly during working hours and avoid peak operations. "Once signs of heat stroke appear, the high temperature site should be evacuated in time. The patient can be taken to a ventilated environment, such as an air-conditioned room or electric fan, for physical cooling, or a fever-reducing patch can be used for emergency treatment and sent to the hospital in time."
