Paris Olympics uses recyclable plastic waste to create stadium seats

Preparations are well underway for the 2024 Olympic Games in Paris, France, which will officially kick off in July. Eco-friendly seats made from recycled plastic waste will be used at some venues at the Paris Olympics in a bid to further reduce carbon emissions and protect the environment, Reuters reported Wednesday.

About 11,000 eco-friendly seats will be installed at some of the Paris Games' stadiums, adding to the 11,000 already installed at some venues, including the Olympic Aquatic Center, according to reports. They are provided by a French eco-building company. Through thermal compression and other technologies, hundreds of tons of renewable plastic are converted into boards, which are finally made into seats.

Benjamin, head of an eco-building company in France: We get [recycled plastics] from different recyclers and we work with over 50 recyclers who collect the waste and sort it.

Benjamin further explained that the recyclers will clean and crush the plastic waste, which will then be transported to the factory in the form of particles or fragments to be made into eco-friendly seats.

There are also media reports that the Paris Olympics used recycled plastic to make chairs, in addition to environmental purposes, another reason is that there is a lack of enough raw materials to make seats.
