The meeting also decided that Thailand's imported plastic waste should not exceed 70,000 tons in 2019, no more than 40,000 tons in 2020, and plastic waste will no longer be imported in 2021.
According to Thai media reports, of the electronic waste imported by Thailand, only 10% of the total is processed by qualified companies in China through formal channels, and the rest goes to factories without processing qualifications.
Earlier, Thailand's Minister of Natural Resources and Environment Suratha said that over the past 10 years, Thailand has generated more than 2 million tons of plastic waste each year, most of which is not properly treated and causes pollution, and Thailand is among the world's largest discharges of garbage into the ocean.
In order to reduce plastic pollution, the Thai government plans to reduce the use of plastic bags and bottles in government departments and enterprises.
