The US Senate quietly passed a bill to reduce tariffs on hundreds of Chinese products

According to a report by Reuters on July 26, the Senate unanimously passed a bill without debate that would reduce or eliminate tariffs on toasters, chemicals and about 1,660 other goods made outside the United States.

According to the documents released by the US Congress, the affected goods include various food, chemicals, raw materials for industrial manufacturing, spare parts and various small household appliances. Such as coconut water, food and feed preservatives, shoe soles, plastic handles for coolers, household toasters, steam irons, hot kettles, plastic firmware for manufacturing machinery, golf bag components, and plastic non-slip bases for toilet brushes. Reuters reports that about half of the goods covered in the bill are made in China, according to U.S. government records.

The US House of Representatives has passed its own version of the Comprehensive Tariff Act. The two chambers still have to negotiate a unified version, vote separately, and send it to the president for signature. Republican Senator Dan Hatcher, chairman of the US Senate Finance Committee, said the Omnibus Tariff Act will lower tariff barriers, help US businesses compete globally and create economic benefits for US consumers, as some goods are difficult to obtain in the US and China.

Reported that the White House has not publicly taken a position on the "comprehensive tariff bill", the House and Senate have now unanimously passed the bill, the two chambers still need to resolve some minor differences before it will be sent to Trump to sign into law.
