The old lady worked up late to sell vegetables to buy a house for her son

Recently, a woman in her 70s stayed up late selling vegetables at a roadside stall to buy a house for her son, which attracted attention in Jinan, Shandong province.

At 10 PM on November 25, 2016, a reporter from the Paper saw Wang Guiying selling vegetables at the intersection of Jinan East Second Ring Road and Qilibao Road. She looked embarrassed in front of the camera. Due to local media coverage, many citizens came to buy her dishes. It is said that Wang had earned more than 100 yuan that day, and only two winter melons remained unsold.

Reporter learned that Wang Guiying is 68 years old this year, having a son and a daughter, the daughter has been married, the son works in Weihai but has not been able to buy a house, and his wife together with his 4-year-old son year-round rental life. "Son married daughter-in-law when even the TV can not afford to buy, his salary is not high, I look worried", a Shandong dialect of the old lady Wang intoned.

At 12 o 'clock in the night, there were few pedestrians on the street, old Mrs. Wang began to close her stall and go home. In order to save the round-trip fare, she spent the night in a nearby street shop that was not officially open for business. Reporters noticed that before she left, she took a waste plastic bucket to leave, "a yuan a catty, can also sell a few money." That night, the temperature in Quancheng has fallen below zero.

The next day, the reporter went to Xiajia village, Licheng District, Jinan City, where Mrs. Wang lives. It is located in a village near the southern tourist area of Jinan, about 15 kilometers away from the urban area, with convenient transportation. There are fixed bus lines at the entrance of the village to the urban area. Old Mrs. Wang often takes this line to and from the city to do business.

Old Mrs. Wang's home is a two-story ordinary brick and concrete building, the whole building covers an area of about 200 square meters, from the appearance of other villagers' homes just like. "She came back this morning, took some sweet potatoes and eggs and went back to the city to set up a stall," Xia, Wang's husband, who was having dinner at the house, told reporters. After entering the house, the reporter observed that there was no decent furniture in the empty room. The ground was scattered with sweet potatoes, walnuts, pumpkins, etc., and the refrigerator was also stocked with leeks and cauliflower for sale. This refrigerator is the only household appliance in the home. Mrs. Wang said that her son and daughter-in-law are very filial, her son saw the report and called her not to let her go out to sell vegetables, but she just want to rely on her own strength to help her son, can help little by little.

"I borrowed 50,000 yuan to build this house, and I still have to find something to do," Xia told reporters. Due to insect pests this year, the walnut and Sichuan pepper planted have failed to harvest, and the price of corn has also dropped. The family expects Wang Guiying to go to the city to sell vegetables. During the conversation, a small cat jumped onto the low table, and Xia hurried to chase him away. On the table was his lunch: a bowl of boiled water and half a pancake.

Old Lady Wang and old man Xia's house hardly had any decent furniture.

When contacted by Thepaper.cn, Wang's son Xia Jigui "watched my mother's news with tears," he told reporters over the phone. After graduating from university, Xia Jigui found a job as a network maintenance worker in Weihai City. He and his wife have a combined monthly income of more than 4,000 yuan with their 4-year-old child, but after rent and daily expenses, there is little left.

On the Internet to see the old mother in the cold wind to buy food news, Xia Jigui said, "these days the heart is very bad, but it is also a kind of motivation for me." He is eager to have a small area of housing in Weihai, but the current local 60 square meters minimum price of more than 400,000 yuan makes him unbearable. "I didn't think buying a house would bring her so much pressure", he regretted that he had revealed the idea of buying a house to his mother, but also admitted that "now I really can't save a penny". On the other end of the phone, Xia Jigui felt helpless.
