Tokyo organizers unveiled the music, podiums and gowns for the Olympic and Paralympic Games on Sunday, 50 days before the start of the Games. Tokyo Organizing Committee president Seiko Hashimoto reiterated at the launch ceremony that the Tokyo Games will go ahead as scheduled.
Seiko Hashimoto expressed the hope that through the power of sports, to contribute to rebuilding the connection and bond between people, which is the value of hosting the Olympic Games. Hashimoto welcomed athletes to the Tokyo Games and said their health would be protected.
The launch ceremony was held at Ariake Stadium, where the volleyball competition was held. According to the organizing committee, the award items are all blue and reflect the concept of environmental protection. The podium, in dark blue, has the same chequered appearance as the Tokyo Olympic emblem and is made of recycled plastic. The volunteers' outfits were light blue and made of recycled fibers; The medal trays are indigo and made of recycled metal.
On Tuesday, Seiko Hashimoto said the Tokyo Games would not be canceled or postponed again unless there were extreme circumstances. Japan is currently in its fourth wave of COVID-19, with Tokyo and other regions under a state of emergency that has been extended, and China's vaccination efforts have been slow. The Japanese Olympic Committee began vaccinating its athletes, coaches and other staff against COVID-19 on July 1 and is expected to continue until July 20.
