Blown paper

  • Mar 28, 2025

Blown paper is a thin plastic foam paper similar to foam plastic. The raw material is mostly expanded polystyrene, which is mostly used to produce low-density polyethylene bottles.

Introduction

Blown paper is a thin plastic foam paper similar to foam plastic. It has many colors and can be bought in stationery stores or art supply stores.

Characteristics

The raw materials of blown paper and KT board are both expanded polystyrene, but the ingredients and production methods are different, and the performance is also different. Blown paper has more fillers. After extrusion, it is first blown into a cylinder and then pulled and pressed into a sheet. Therefore, the surface is mercerized and it is easy to split into two layers. It is softer than KT board, and the strength in different directions is different. KT board basically does not add fillers, is much thicker than blown paper, and has higher strength. If the skin is peeled off, the strength in different directions is very small.

Production process

Blow molding is a rapidly developing plastic processing method. The tubular plastic parison obtained by extrusion or injection molding of thermoplastic resin is placed in a split mold while hot (or heated to a softened state). After the mold is closed, compressed air is immediately introduced into the parison to inflate the plastic parison and cling to the inner wall of the mold. After cooling and demolding, various hollow products are obtained. The manufacturing process of blown film is very similar to that of hollow product blow molding in principle, but it does not use molds. From the perspective of plastic processing technology classification, the molding process of blown film is usually included in extrusion.

Rise and Development

During World War II, the blow molding process began to be used to produce low-density polyethylene bottles. In the late 1950s, with the birth of high-density polyethylene and the development of blow molding machines, blow molding technology has been widely used. The volume of hollow containers can reach thousands of liters.
