Masterbatch is a mixture of resin and a large amount of pigment (up to 50%) or dye to form a high-concentration color. Masterbatch, also known as color seed, is an aggregate made by uniformly attaching an extraordinary amount of pigment or dye to the resin. When processing, a small amount of masterbatch is mixed with uncolored resin to achieve a colored resin or product with a designed pigment concentration.
1. It is beneficial to maintain the chemical stability and color stability of the pigment; 2. It makes the pigment more dispersed in the plastic; 3. Protect the health of the operator; 4. The process is simple and the color change is easy; 5. The environment is clean and does not stain the utensils; 6. Save time and raw materials. Since pigments are directly exposed to air during storage and use, they will absorb moisture, oxidize, and agglomerate. Direct use will cause color spots on the surface of plastic products, dark hue, easy color fading, and dust flying during mixing, affecting the health of operators. Masterbatches undergo mechanical processing during the production process, and the pigments are refined. The pigments are fully mixed with resin carriers and dispersants to isolate the pigments from air and moisture, thereby enhancing the weather resistance of the pigments, improving the dispersibility and tinting power of the pigments, and making the hue bright. Since masterbatches are similar in shape to resin particles, they are more convenient and accurate in metering, and will not adhere to the container during mixing, thus saving time for cleaning containers and machines, as well as raw materials for cleaning the machine.
1. Pigments or dyes Pigments are divided into organic pigments and inorganic pigments. Commonly used organic pigments are: phthalocyanine red, phthalocyanine blue, phthalocyanine green, sun-fast red, macromolecule red, macromolecule yellow, permanent yellow, permanent purple, azo red, etc. Commonly used inorganic pigments include: cadmium red, cadmium yellow, titanium dioxide, carbon black, iron oxide red, iron oxide yellow, etc. Comparison of the three major pigments 2. Carrier The carrier is the matrix of the masterbatch. Special masterbatch generally chooses the same resin as the product resin as the carrier, and the compatibility of the two is the best, but the fluidity of the carrier should also be considered. 3. Dispersant The dispersant promotes the uniform dispersion of the pigment and no longer agglomerates. The melting point of the dispersant should be lower than that of the resin, and it has good compatibility with the resin and good affinity with the pigment. The most commonly used dispersants are: polyethylene low molecular wax and stearate. 4. Additives such as flame retardant, brightening, antibacterial, antistatic, antioxidant and other varieties. Unless the customer requires it, the masterbatch generally does not contain the above additives.
Extrusion, etc. Products include pipes, sheets, wires and cables, fibers, artificial leather, films, etc.
Masterbatch is a high-concentration colored granular material made of colorant, carrier resin, dispersant, coupling agent, surfactant and plasticizer;
In addition to the above raw materials, functional masterbatch must be added with light stabilizers, antistatic agents, flame retardants, foaming agents and other additives according to functional requirements.
Functional masterbatch is a masterbatch that has the functions of ordinary masterbatch and gives plastic products other functions. These functions include weather resistance, antistatic function, flame retardant function, foaming function, etc. The production process of functional masterbatch is to produce products by kneading, plasticating, crushing and granulating the colorant and surfactant of the general masterbatch after surface treatment with functional additives and dispersing additives. Functional masterbatch is one of the trends in the technological development of the masterbatch industry.
Using masterbatch or functional masterbatch to produce plastic products, the colorant has good dispersion in the product, bright color, no color spots or color difference on the surface of the product, convenient color change, low cost, environmentally friendly, low labor intensity, it is a widely used plastic coloring method with good development prospects.
Currently, masterbatch and functional masterbatch are widely used in polyethylene, polypropylene, polystyrene, ABS, nylon, PC, PMMA, PET and other resins to produce colorful fibers, clothing, daily plastics, wires and cables, household appliances, agricultural films, auto parts, health care equipment and other products
