Recycled plastic

  • Mar 31, 2025

Overview

Recycled plastic are the reuse of plastic. After mechanical blade crushing, the plastic are reused.

Recycled plastic refer to plastic raw materials obtained after processing waste plastic by physical or chemical methods such as pretreatment, melt granulation, and modification. It is the reuse of plastic.

Application

Plastic have good processing properties and are easy to shape, such as: blowing, extrusion, pressing, easy to cut, and easy to weld. In production and life, many plastic can be granulated, such as waste food bags, sandals, wires, wire boards, agricultural films, pipes, barrels, basins, strapping tapes, and various waste plastic products can be repeatedly molded and processed to produce plastic raw materials, and then through special processes and formulas, they can be used to manufacture machine parts and components; can be used to make water pipes, agricultural machinery, packaging bags, cement bags; can replace some wooden products; can be used to make various plastic bags, barrels, basins, toys and other plastic products, daily necessities.

Recycled plastic and granulated plastic have broad prospects, turning waste into treasure, and the products (plastic granules) have a wide market. Plastic enterprises have a large demand. A medium-sized agricultural film factory needs more than 1,000 tons of polyethylene granules per year, a medium-sized shoe factory needs more than 2,000 tons of polyvinyl chloride granules per year, and a small individual private enterprise needs more than 500 tons of granules per year. Therefore, there is a large gap in plastic granules and it cannot meet the demand of plastic manufacturers. Therefore, the market is very good and the benefits are excellent. The source of waste plastic raw materials is wide. Where there are people, there are waste plastic. It is easy to purchase and the price is cheap (this is the case everywhere). A city consumes more than 10 tons of various plastic products such as plastic food bags every day. There are also a large number of waste plastic that can be recycled in rural areas. Plastic granules have no worries about sales.

Advantages

World resources are always a hot topic for human beings. The slogan of saving resources and protecting the environment has gradually penetrated into people's hearts. Plastic will not rot even if buried underground for hundreds of years. Therefore, the awakening of recycling recycled materials is inevitable. Only in this way can people truly achieve environmental protection and energy saving through the recycling of resources. The biggest advantage of recycled materials is that the price is absolutely cheaper than new materials. Although its overall performance and properties are not as strong as new materials, we don't need to use materials with good properties and performance in many aspects of product production to make it, which wastes a lot of unnecessary properties. Recycled materials are different. According to different needs, only certain properties need to be processed to produce corresponding products, so that resources will not be lost.

Disadvantages

1. When recycling waste plastic, classification is very difficult and economically uneconomical.

2. Plastic are easy to burn and produce toxic gases when burned.

3. Plastic are made of petroleum refining products, and petroleum resources are limited.

4. Plastic have poor heat resistance and are prone to aging.

Due to the non-natural degradation of plastic, they have become the number one enemy of mankind and have also led to the tragedy of many animals. For example, monkeys, pelicans, dolphins and other animals in the zoo will swallow the No. 1 plastic bottle thrown by tourists, and finally die painfully due to indigestion; looking at the beautiful and pure sea surface, if you look closely, you will find that it is actually full of various plastic garbage that cannot be accommodated by the ocean. In the intestines of many dead seabird samples, various indigestible plastic were found.

Performance changes

PVC: The color change is more obvious after regeneration. After one regeneration and extrusion, it will be light brown, and it will almost become opaque brown after three times. The specific viscosity remains unchanged at the second time, and there is a tendency to decrease after more than two times. Whether it is hard or soft PVC, stabilizers should be added during regeneration. In order to make the re-product shiny, ABS 1%-3% for blending can be added during regeneration.

PE: After PE is recycled, the performance is reduced and the color turns yellow. After multiple extrusions, the viscosity of high-density polyethylene decreases, while the viscosity of low-density polyethylene increases.

PP: When recycled once, the color is almost unchanged, and the melt index increases. After more than two times, the color becomes heavier, and the melt index still increases. The breaking strength and elongation decrease after recycling, but there is no problem in use.

PS: The color turns yellow after recycling, so the recycled PS is generally color-differentiated. The degree of decline in various properties of recycled materials is proportional to the number of recycling times. The breaking strength does not change significantly when the incorporation amount is less than 60%, and the limiting viscosity does not change significantly when the incorporation amount is less than 40%.

ABS: The color change after recycling is more obvious, but when the incorporation amount does not exceed 20-30%, the performance does not change significantly.

Nylon recycling also has the problem of discoloration and performance degradation, and the incorporation amount should be less than 20%. The recycled elongation decreases, but the elasticity tends to increase.

Distinguishing good from bad

1. Look at the color:

The lighter the color (even colorless and transparent), the wider the scope of application and the higher the grade. For example, white can be adjusted to a variety of other colors, or it can be made back to white products, and the price is also high. Secondly, various ingredients are added to the raw materials due to product needs.

2. Look at the CaCO (stone powder) content

The more CaCO content, the lower the grade, and the lower the price. From the naked eye, if the product is not bright and has no luster (except matte), the CaC03 content is high, and it will feel heavy in the hand. If it is burned with fire, the burned part will turn red and turn into ash after being extinguished. In addition, attention should be paid to reinforced (referring to glass fiber) products. The only reinforced products that can be used are PA, PBT, PP, etc., and the prices are not high. There are also several alloy materials. Currently, only ABS+PC is sold in China, and the others are not available. Then judge whether the mixed materials can be reused according to the specific gravity (density) of the raw materials. At present, the most problematic ones are ABS and PS mixed, PC and PMMA mixed, PVC flakes (bottle materials) and PEl, flakes mixed, PE and PP mixed half and half. After these materials are mixed, they are difficult to use because of their similar density.

3. See whether the recycled plastic is pure

The purer the material, the higher the grade; if the material is impure, the grade is low, and some mixed materials are even not wanted.

4. The difference from waste plastic

Waste plastic are plastic products that are directly crushed into powder or granules, and it is still possible to distinguish what material it is, such as injection molding, wire drawing, or film, etc. Recycled materials are recycled for countless times and cannot be accurately distinguished. They can only be graded according to the number of cycles, starting with the least, special grade, first grade, and second grade.

Market price evaluation

Price evaluation of recycled plastic

1. Color and performance of recycled plastic

Generally speaking, the lighter the color of recycled plastic, the more ideal the price. The closer the performance is to new materials, the more ideal the price is. The better the performance indicators are, the more ideal they are.

2. Purity of recycled plastic

The higher the purity of recycled plastic, the more ideal they are, except for modified materials, because modified materials mainly look at performance indicators; the compatibility of each component in recycled materials can also be included in this point, and the better the compatibility, the higher the price.

3. Appearance of recycled plastic

First, look at the pelletizing shape. The better the pelletizing shape, the higher the price can basically be; secondly, look at whether it is foamed, layered, whether the hardness meets the requirements, whether the color is uniform, whether the gloss is good, etc.

4. Application of recycled plastic

The purpose, processing characteristics, wide range of applications, and other special requirements of recycled plastic will affect the valuation of recycled plastic.
