Fishermen in Wanning, Hainan successfully rescued an injured dolphin and released it after recovery
Haikou, April 12 (Xinhua) -- Another injured dolphin was rescued by fishermen in Wanning, Hainan province, on April 11, following the successful rescue of a stranded dolphin in October last year.
At noon on April 11, Wucang Port in Wanning City was busy, and the returning fishing boats were unloading fish to sell fish and calling fish loading vehicles. Suddenly, a fisherman found that a few kilometers away from the dock Wucang Bay sea, as if there is something stirring the surface of the water, with years of fishing practice good eyesight, he recognized this is an injured dolphin.
After confirming the situation, the fisherman quickly reported it to the relevant departments of the Hainan Provincial Department of Oceanography and Fisheries. Hainan Provincial Department of Oceanography and Fisheries immediately transferred the situation to Wanning Municipal Bureau of Oceanography and Fisheries, requiring immediate organization of personnel rushed to the scene for rescue. More than 2 p.m., Hainan Province South China Sea aquatic wildlife rescue center sent technicians, Wanning City ocean and fisheries Bureau sent staff, Wuchang border police station dispatched police to Wuchang port pier, emergency rescue of the injured dolphin.
Identified by the technical staff, the injured dolphin belongs to the Indo-Pacific bottlenose dolphin, also known as the southern bottlenose dolphin and the Southern bottlenose dolphin. The dolphin had three wounds on its body, one large wound the size of a bowl and two smaller wounds. When the dolphin was brought to shore, rescuers found a foreign object in its mouth and used pliers to remove about 1 meter of plastic.
The dolphin was very weak after being rescued, and after emergency rescue, his condition improved. The ambulance staff fed it three small fish on the spot, and then it was transported to the fish cage raised by the fishermen in Wuchang Bay for care, and then released into the sea after recovery.
It is reported that on October 6 last year, a dolphin was unable to swim back to the sea after becoming stranded on the beach near Lianfeng Village, Hele Town, Wanning City. At that time, fishermen sent the stranded dolphin back to the sea several times, but the dolphin swam back. The dolphin was taken to a wildlife rescue center for examination, only to find that it had become disoriented due to a disturbance in its biological navigation system.
